Default Quick brake caliper question (not poll)

So, I did a search on brake calipers and didn't find what I was looking for. So, I have a RS2 and I want to paint my calipers to match the blitz blue. I have 2 questions:

1.) Do you remove the caliper to paint them?

2.) Is their special paint/technique to painting calipers because I have seen some ricers paint calipers and they get chipped and have bumpy paint. What can I do to make the calipers look real nice?

Thanks!

You don't have to take them off but it makes it easier to do a good job, but if not just make sure you tap and cover everything else you dont' want paint on. Secondly you want to get some high heat caliper paint, duplicolor makes some good stuff, that way it want fall off a few days later, lol. As far as matching them to your RS2, good luck! That will be hard!

Cool, so their is actual high heat paint for calipers. That is what I am looking for, but matching the RS2 is probably impossible, huh? cause I def. do not want to buy cheap paint that will chip off and look like crap in a month.

High heat engine paint also does the trick, and I bet you can find more colors of than than you can caliper paint.

Yeah, any high heat paint will work, and there will be a bigger selection if you look at engine paint too, but matching the RS2, that aint gonna happen. You mite get close but not the same.

Go to brakecaliperpaint.com for G2 Caliper Paint.

That's the stuff that I used, and it looks great. There are also more choices of colors. And not to start an argument with anyone else, I think that it's quality far surpasses that of the Duplicolor Paint ( + it's guaranteed for life ). You pay a little bit more but it is well worth it. I get compliments all the time.

As far as painting them you don't have to remove them ( but it would help ). Just mask off all the surrounding parts and have at it.

Good luck.

Paintint the calipers is pretty easy.. just time consuming.. you must remove the tire then both pieces of the caliper.. you'll need either an 8mm or 10mm (cant remember, been awhile) and needle nose pliers.. I didnt use a C-clamp to compress my brake and it didnt stick out like I thought it would.. I just removed it, removed all the metal things off the brake, removed the pads themselves, then I painted them and hung them in the sun to let em dry.. I then put everything back together and it works perfectly and looks tight..
