Default Seibon hood issues...

I purchased an OEM CF hood for my '06 back in March and it has cracked across the front. Its about 5" and basically above the hood latch...I have asked around locally and found 2 others that currently have the same thing going one, plus one guy in OR that haad the same problem but Seibon fixed it. Basically what I am asking has anyone had this same issue? I went back to the shop I got it from and they said that Seibon would not warranty it...that ____ed me off. I have a sent a letter off to Seibon to voice my concerns and I will follow up here, especailly if others have/are having this same problem.

let me know...

ive had my Seibon oem style hood for a year now. no issues at all. the only crack/chip is from rock and road debris...just 1 at the very front of the hood and i consider that normal wear and tear type of damage.

That is weird. I used to have a Seibon hood, then a flat bed truck drove over the front of my car. Even with that, there was only a slight crack on it. Switched to Kami after that.

I liked the weave better in the VIS and that is what I ordered but I was told like you said that Seibon was better. I close my hood with 2 hands, the shop adjusted my hood stops down becasue it was difficult to close to begin with, this is the 3rd hood i have had on my car and the only one I have had a problem with.

I just got word from another local member as well so that brings it to 4 people all in the local area that have this same issue. I know 2 of them are most likely from improper closure but I just can't believe that not only are they aware of the problem but do not do anything to help prevent/ fix it. They say its not a manufacturer defect, but if 4 of the 4 people w/ Seibon hoods that I have talked to locally all have this same issue, there is something going on.

i talked to some of my guys that have cf hoods also and do a lot of bodywork professionally and they have come to the same conclusion I have. It may have not been installed properly. did all 4p eople that you know have the same people install it? On my hood we moved the latch mechanism down.

It sounds like the latch mechanism on the vehicle is not lined up / adjusted correctly with the latch bracket on the hood. So when you close the hood, the latch mechanism is sticking up too far and is hitting the exposed underside of the hood causing minor cracks to appear on the surface of the hood

is the crack on the CF top, or underneath in the fiberglass? if its underneath, then hood pins or latches should take care of the problem right?

i have a seibon oem hood going on 2 years old, still looks great and no damage anywhere!

I think therein lies the problem. There was no adjustment done to the latch only the stops on either side. Lesson learned I guess, gotta try and sand it down and re-clear or just paint over it...guess thats why they say it should be installed by professionals.
