Sirius Antenna Install Help
1. Choose a location first. front and center above the windshield works best on most cars.
2. Using a mini pick tool or something similar (I prefer to use a SG3ASH90) CAREFULLY lift enough of your windshields weather stripping so that you can feed the antenna wire through.
3. Continue down either the driver or passenger side (doesn't matter though I find the passenger side to be easier) until you get to where the fender, hood and windshield meet and tuck the wire behind the fender.
4. You should now be in the door jamb. Pull the weather stripping back and run the wire underneath so the wire is secure and has no chance of getting closed in the door.
5. Next you should be able to drop your glove box and run the wire behind there to where you will be mounting the tuner (or straight through to the HU if doing direct connect).
6. Optional step, but I do it for customers to protect their paint. Never stick the magnet to the paint of the car because weather conditions can move it ever so slighty resulting in a scratch (even with plastic cased antennas.) I put a small strip of 3m double-sided tape under it to secure and prevent scratches.
Hope this helps. I've never done this in the tC but have done literally hundreds of satelitte radios and you shouldn't have to stray too far from these instructions. Mounting the antenna in the rear isn't too different, just come thorugh the trunk and run above the headliner. Maybe I'll do an actual write up with pics on this when my xB arrives, cause my MyFi will be going in there that day.

I mount mine on the passenger side dash.. you can run wires from the deck through the glove box and up to the pillars. thats what i did.. works perfectly fine for both navi & xm..

i hate looking at antennas. i've had it installed UNDER the dash, pointing closest to the windshield.
installers who tell you it won't work are simply following the recommended rules in the install guides and don't want to try something new.
if oem navigation antennas can go under the dash then so can satellite radio. the housing itself is plastic..what's another 1/4"?
I've had sirius and xm antenna stealth installs for years. if its plastic, wood or glass and line of sight...it can see the satellite. i can pull in xm thru the dash, thru the windshield all while parked in my closed garage (thru the wooden garage door). and i live in a very wooded area.
in short, keep that ugly antenna off the vehicle and out of sight.

I'm not disagreeing with you but remember GPS has 20+ satellites in orbit with 6 over the US at any given time whereas XM and Sirius have 3 each. Also GPS has thousands of terrestrial repeaters set up where XM has around 800 and Sirius has about 100. It really comes down to your area, whether hiding antennas is an option. And you're right about installers telling you that it won't work because thats what MECP states, but not doing it because we don't want to try something new is wrong. The installers certification is on the line in a professional setting, and like you said is just following the rules.
i have xm and siruis both stealth...no problems for years. plastic and glass are no problem. the housing on the antenna is plastic. concrete and steel are the problems.
i think if you have a problem with the underdash setup, you'd have a problem with it on the roof too.
good installers will give it a shot anywhere you want..and if it doesn't work as expected..they can move it. hey, when i ask or something out of the box, i don't hold the installer to the fire if it doesn't work. i've spoken to a lot of installers, and let's be honest...some don't really go beyond "the black is negative, red is positive"
