I mean, i thought the sound is like "tap tap tap" on the glass or something.
Yeah that's the sound it was making. It was basically the plastic "conduit" tapping against the sheetmetal. Makes a similar sound to something tapping on the glass.

You can reproduce it by taking off the top trim piece and tapping the conduit between it's two fastners and you'll hear it. And if it makes that noise while I'm gently tapping it it sure as heck is going to make it as the car goes over bumps, etc.

But, again, this is what worked in my situation. I'm curious to see how many other people with rattles tries this out and the rattle goes away.

Thanks, I'm gonna try it. Just one last question, is it hard to pop open the plastic over for that area? Any special caution I should take?
Nah, it comes off with just your bare hands. Get your fingers a little under the lip near the window and tug a bit and it will make a sound like it's snapping but it's not and away you go.

Getting it back on is easy too, just position it correctly and give it a few good fists around the perimiter and the center and you're done.

yeah i was the one who had suggested, the foam tape on the bumper stoppers of the hatch.. and it worked for some of us.. guess there are two different rattles going on that require two different fixes.

I'm definitely going to take a peek at this harness suggestion. Only takes a minute or two to pull the plastic off. Couldn't hurt to try. Thanks!
ha, I did the same thing. I was ready to start tearing apart the sunroof to find this rattle. after driving my girlfriend for a while I realized it went away when she was in the car... hmmmm. it was the seatbelt hitting the B pillar when it was not in use. I live on a dirt road and all these rattles become quite evident every day when I come home. so every little bit of rattle killing information is greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing this was bad seatbelt design because this was one of the rattles I was having also. The seatbelt would hit the side pillar everytime I hit a bump. I still have about two more rattles to fix, I'm going to give the one suggested by the OP today hopefully that will stop another one.

I've either had my car way too short (a week today) not to notice this or I dont have any rattles at all.. hmm.. maybe I should try it on the highway

Try this:

Turn off the music, a/c, and put your windows all the way up. Drive through a somewhat bumpy road and listen for rattles. Even though they are always there I tend to notice the rattles more at night. You won't hear any rattles on the highway it's too smooth. Supposedly they fixed the moonroof "creak" after VIN#12906.

Note: If you have aftermarket springs the rattles will be applified since it's a stiffer ride.

Not everyone has rattles. I havent noticed any either. I guess you and I are the few lucky ones. But there are a couple of annoying little sounds here and there that I cant even describe. But they are not too noticable. I think giving the scions a softer suspension would fix a lot of the annoying noise issues.

Did Toyota tell you this?

I took mine in months ago for the moonroof creak and they applied the TSB but they did NOT fix it. They did some other stuff which fixed it. So I would not be surprised if cars after 12906 might still experience the creaking.

The Rattle Comes from the Antenna, When you go down the road about 65 to 70 watch the Antenna and you will notice it waggin around like a puppy. You need to get a stubby.

I doubt an antenna wagging in the wind will make enough noise to call a rattle... if you hear a rattle from there, its probably not on tight enough.

I think the guy hit it with the answer on the wiring harness near back dome light. I haven't tried yet as VA has been cold/snowy. The rattle I hear is from the inside not outside where the antenna is.

ok, I finally got a chance to try it today. i think thread might have found a fix for one of the many rattles that the tC has. I took off the plastic cover and moved the wires around but for some reason I couldn't reproduce the sound. so I covered it back up again drove a around a bit and it was gone. it's probably only a temporary fix because i didn't do anything but move it around a bit. so i think i just moved it out of place.

basically this fixes the "tapping on glass" noise that comes from the hatch. anyway good job thread

caution: be careful taking off the plastic cover because I think i might have broken a piece of it. it still went back on though.

Have you checked to see if it's not the passenger side seatbelt tapping the side? Is your window all the way up?

Hmm.. I'll do that and let you know...

by the way, while we are talking about annoying noises, has anybody noticed (on a manual tc) when you shift and press the gas, while accelerating, you can hear a HIGH pitched sound... it almost sounds as if I have a supercharger or something... it's very weird...

That passenger side seatbelt rattle is hilariouse! I never would have thought of that. My old Integra was such a piece of crap that my wife would never let anyone ride in it with me, so i always just left all the seatbelts buckled in so they wouldn't swing around!
