Default Spacers...........are they worth it?????

Well i have been poundering the thought of getting some spacers for my ride. I want my aftermarket wheels to sit flush with my fenders without rubbing. I know i know i should have gotten the right offet with my rims , but i brought them on a impulse buy....and am very happy with them just want them flush. My rims are 18x7 with a 40 offset wrapped in Nexxon 225/40R18 tires I am also on TRD springs. So my question is what size spacers would be good and what brand and cheapest place to get them.....i want hub centric spacers fo sho!

I also have a question regarding the space on the back of the rim as shown in the pix below.......

Mine does not have that .........is that going to be a problem if i get spacers?

So i need some feed back from my fellow SL brothas.........
I would realy appreciate it................

Just 5mm for the front and rear? I read a couple topics stating 15mm for the front and 20mm for the rear.....would that be too much for mine...would that rub?

It's all about effective ET, not about spacer size, so it's going to depend on your wheel and tire specifically. I can tell you that the racecar runs an effective 30 ET on a 17x8 with a 235/40R17. There's no rub, but we have no fender liners and our fenders are also cut. We could probably push them out further.

5 should be good enough, but if you want to spend the extra time and money, go for 15.

thats an oxymoron. its like saying "I want to make 300HP and get 30mpg"

my setup is flusher than a toilet and I rub all the time.
go with 5mm spacers. you wont have to worry about the space behind the wheels either.

yes. please don't go staggered using spacers. not a smart reason to kill your rear suspension.

One might stagger track widths for racing balance purposes, but you'll be fine doing an equal spacing front and rear for the street.

^ seriously. why's everyone against spacers? back up your comments with some facts that truly say they are "bad" for the car or the suspension. i've ran spacers on two cars previous to my tc. i had H&R DRM 25mm spacers front and rear in the past, the ones that have new studs pressed into them and that fit over the old studs. if you get the correct ones with new studs pressed in, there is no problems. even with the 5 or 10mm spacers usuing the stock studs, there is plenty of threads on the stock studs!

honestly, if spacers are bad do you really think a company like H&R, who have been around since the 70s and make high quality German suspension components for countless apps, would still be making them and slapping warranties on em? professional race teams use them for pete's sake.

sounds like 10mm would be pretty flush.

the oem wheels are 17x7 +45 offset, yours are 18x7 +40 offset. that means your wheels are already pushed out further than the oem ones by 5mm. if you want them pushed out more, i would go with 10mm H&R DRS spacers. 10mm is less than half an inch. you are on 18s and on 225/40 tires, which arent fat tires and 40 is low profile seeing as they're only 225 wide. i do not think you will be rubbing with 10mm, but, that depends on how dropped you are too.

you could always take a ruler/tape measure and do some measurements. just keep in mind your future mods. are you going coilovers and lowering it more?

edit: i saw you are on TRD drop, and from the pics on your profile i would be very surprised if you rub with 10mm spacers.

But h&R do not sell 10mm for scion tc. They only sell 5, 15, 25mm for the tc. I also read up on here that people went a little higher for the rear. So i took a ruler to it and the gap in the front is roughly half an inch and the rear is about an 1 inch.

youre right H&R doesnt sell 10mm spacers for toyotas, so go with the 5mm. 15mm spacers will work in the rear, but you'll rub occasionally. since youre not interested in rubbing at all, then stick with 5mm all around, but it'll be hardly noticable to the naked eye. i heard Eibach makes 10mm spacers for Toyotas, but I never confirmed it.

Spacers are perfectly fine. If this were VWVortex.com, people all over would be recommending them because many of them actually use spacers. Many ScionLife tC owners often car newbies who dont have personal experience with the mods they do and dont recommend.

yeah they didnt make them for my '88 rx7 either, so what i did is got the exact centerbore and lug pattern i needed and found spacers for another model, the 626, which had the exact same centerbore as the FC rx7's. worked like a charm. i'm sure you can mix and match with toyota too. did it work? like a charm. ghetto? nah, just work around your obstacles. where there's a will there's a way =P

This page should help in measuring the exact spacer you should get.

Ok a few more question>
1. Which brand is better H&R or Ichiba spacers?
2. Where is the cheapest place i can get some 15mm for the front and 20mm for the rear? I mesured my gap and the front was about a 1/2 an inch and the rear was about an 1 inch. So do you think 15mm for the front and 20mm for the rear would be just right?

Thank you
