They locktite and torque some of the bolts in the sunroof. Simple as that. No parts are replaced.

Did you guys take it in and say "I need my sunroof checked out" ? Or did you go in saying "I need the TSB for the sunroof performed" ? If you did the latter, you may have messed up. They will simply perform the TSB, which is pretty specific, and will not look over anything else. Dont tell them to do the TSB, just have them troubleshoot the problem. There are multiple causes for the sunroof issues.

I just told my dealer that my sunroof was rattling like crazy and sounded like it was gonna fall off..he said OK! then they took it for a test drive and duplicated the problem, and then he said they just performed the TSB for it. I said ok..and now it opens smoother (grease) and doensnt rattle at all! it's perfect. Also i had the rear hatch rattle..i felt like a dummy when they found out that it was a toolset in my trunk that my dad had put in there without telling me...O WELL NO MORE RATTLE HA!

Default BE WARY OF TSB FOR POPPING SOUND

IF your TC has a popping sound BUT NO RATTLE, when you hit large bumps or enter parking lots while turning, DO NOT HAVE THE DEALER PERFORM THE TSB for tightening the bolts. The first time they performed the TSB on my TC, it corrected the popping noise, which was only an occasional nuisance, but replaced it with a CONSTANT rattle. I've had it back 3 times since, once to put felt underlayment to the side rails, and the the last time, all components of the Sunroof were replaced, fixing the problem for only about a week. I am currently investigating other corrections to this issue, as I have no faith in the dealership. I will also be taking it back to their body shop on Monday, as they put a thumb sized scratch on the right passenger door while repairing it the last time. My new rule of thumb, if it is something you can live with, live with it. The service technicians do not know how to deal with problems on new models.

Smiracle, you are absolutely right!! I took my car in for the hatch rattle. The tech claimed he would look to see if there is a tsb for it. He comes back and says "nope, couldnt find one" So he proceeded to tighting the hatch lock. It didnt fix the problem at all, and now my hatch closes and opens funny as if he tightened it too much.

So i found on on scionlife that there IS in fact a tsb for it. So I took it back in, and told him the tsb number. He goes "oh, it must be new". Bullsh&*t. I bet you he didnt even bother to look the first time. So now he ordered me the struts to put on. And I am told it will take weeks for the parts to come in because they are on back order due to the tsb.

So for all those who say the hatch rattle is just a small problem....that is BS too.

^^ 99% chance your rattle is not coming from the sunroof then. With the way the tC is built and the glass roof, everything sounds like it is coming from there. For example, after I got mine I heard a rattle from the sunroof. I could even put my head up next to it and hear it plain as day. Turns out there was a quarter in the cupholder beneath a can of soda... the sound reflected perfectly off the roof making it sound as if that was where it came from. After laughing at myself I removed it. Basically my point is that locating the source seems to be the largest issue. The tC has a decent acoustic design and enough glass to make noises tough to locate.

Actually TSB stands for "Toyota Service Bulliten", and I also had this performed. I went in because my sunroof was making a whistling sound and not sitting flush when closed. I told them it was whistling, and it came back fixed.

I've had mt TC since the launch week in 04.. I've had the TSB done once and taken it back 6 other times to be evaluated for the same friggin problem. Now the hatch is rattling to.

This thing is a rattle trap. I gave it a chance but now I can't wait to get rid of it.

After my bonus next year, G35 here I come!

No, it actually stands for Technical Service Bulletin. Every manufacturer issues TSB's. That has been the common term for them for years.

I found a simple solution to my rattle problem. I simply turn the stereo volume to 52, works great!
