After my bonus next year, G35 here I come!
I would love a G35. My hatch ratlle should be fixed in a week hopefully. If and when my sunroof starts to rattle, the tC will get the boot with the quickness. I have very little tolerance for brand new car annoyances. Im keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that the car behaves from now on. What a shame, such a beautiful car too. *sigh*

Default Hatch rattle

Though I continue to have issues with the Sunroof rattle, I read a solution on another post with regard to the hatch rattle. It suggested getting 1/4x1/2 inch black foam adhesive weather strip that you can find at any hardware store. Cut two one-inch strips and place over the rubber stoppers on the left and right sides of drain area. This puts upward pressure against the hatch while it is closed and stops the rattle. I performed this on mine and it worked beautifully. The tape isn't all that noticeable while the hatch is open, if it bothers you, you can opt to put it on the top rubber parts on the hatch door.

I don't have a rattle, but my sunroof sometimes gets a mind of its own and refuses to close. Its like the pinch protection is set too sensitive... when it gets to the point where the front flap is supposed to fold down, the pinch protection activates and the sunroof fully opens instead of closes.

I took it to the dealer and showed it to a service tech who had the same problem trying to get it close. It acted like that twice, then on the third try it did close.

They were then unable to reproduce the problem.

They claim to have "fixed" it, but I feel like its just a matter of time before it does it again.

I agree with the guy who said he wants a G35. I wonder how much Infiniti gives for a trade on a tC?

Default Sunroof fix followup

Per a suggestion on another posting, I just fixed my sunroof rattle with a $3 can of lithium grease. There are two arms that push up the wind deflector. Grease the cotterpins at each end of each arm. Be sure to back it up with a towel because the spray grease is messy. It dries to a thick consistency which I think is the key to solving the rattle. I've hit some bumpy roads already with no problems. Whew....

The hatch problem has been reduced, but not entirely corrected by my previous suggestion. I'm going to add more foam tape and see if that helps, if not, wait for the redesigned strut TSB.

Good luck!

To Break Away's comment "its a rattle... dont pick the damn 17K car apart... its fine!", I've owned a lot of cars, even junkers, and never had rattles like this one. It's the only problem I've had with the car however and the rest of the car is superior to anything in it's class and price. Bottom line, you buy a NEW car, you don't want it sounding as if you paid $500 for it.

Also to the "its a 17k car, dont complain" comments: Coming from a technical background that is a bit absurd. Whether it is 17k or 80k, I expect something to work as designed. Rattling is not working as designed. This means a mistake was made in such design. I dont, however think less of the car. I have had a very occassional stereo cover squeak which is corrected by moving the door up and down once (which is why I havent taken the time to fix it.) And an occassional rattle from the arms that hold the wind deflector. I was able to push the push washer on further which fixed it for quite a while. The lithium grease is a good idea for that. I am also thinking of just finding a foam washer to place in between to correct it without adding grease.
