No, both grill get pushed inwards towards the radiator. NOT outwards.

Aren't there any write ups out there for VRD grill install?

Here's a thread on it...

Now that I think about it I ordered my "VRD" grill off ebay too about a year ago. I now am having to repaint it because through the winter the black started to chip leaving what looks like shiny aluminum behind it. So maybe these are also these knockoffs and this is the problem with them.

Does anybody with legit VRD's have this flaking problem?

I know I'm going to just strip it all off with a sandblaster and primer/paint/clear it myself.
Have the grills re-sprayed with a layer of clear coat before you use the grill might solve the problem of chipping or peeling. Oh by the way, do any of those kids swing by the local evolution meets?

Layer of clearcoat first? I was just going to have the grill roughed up a bit after the sandblasting, and then the primer should stick nicely.

I don't think they have been to any of the SE meets, but they did join the club....? I'm not sure though maybe one of them will chime in here, doesn't make sense to me joining a club before meeting the people first and seeing what it's all about.

Got mine earlier this week and installed them quickly and easily tonight. It was a piece of cake and these were my first grilles. Build quality seems good, fitment is above average, but the bottom one has a slight looseness on the top of it.

Pics inbound!

O hay, some grilles!

When I hold the camera 3 inches from the bumper, sure it's easy to see I purposefully pointed out the worst fitting areas so people could see what they would have to live with. Overall I would consider the fitment "acceptable" at worst.

would the stock chrome thing make it look better? maybe by covering the gaps for fitment issue areas?

Well, my '09 grilles didn't have those, so I couldn't say for sure, but there's really hardly any gap along the bottom or top of them, I'd say there wouldn't be room for it except down the sides, which would obviously look weird.

I kind of hope they actually stop selling these so cheap, just because now everybody is going to have VRD grills or VRD knockoff grills or whatever they are. I wish 5A would rethink producing there upper grill... too bad everybody cheaped out when it came to paying
