Default Trunk handle problem

I own a 2006 TC and I was wondering if anyone has had their trunk handle broken while trying to open it. It happened last week while the weather was pretty cold and snow lasted all week. The plastic piece with the Scion emblem with the middle brake light simply snapped and broke while I was trying to open it. Im taking it to my dealer tomorrow. Has this happened to anyone? It seems like another piece of cheap plastic part on building the car. Im sure the dealer can get the part and fix it, but Im curious to see if this is a common thing. Thanks for your help.

common. the dealer will charge you to fix it though. of all the stories i've read on here i don't think a single dealership has honored it under warranty.

I am hearing more and more about this. I'm definitely going to be more careful when I open my hatch.

I just got back from my dealer, and it will be covered under my warranty. The part, trim panel, will be arriving there within a couple of days. Takes about an hour to replace.

Dealer will replace it and it is covered by the warranty. Thanks for everyone's help regarding this. The trim panel will be arriving there within a couple of days. I'm thankful that it is under warranty.
