Default Vented hoods

i was looking to get a carbon fiber hood. trying to decide to get one vented or not. Is it bad for water to be coming from above on the engine? i understand it would keep temps. cooler in there but probly wouldnt want one if rain would hurt it...ya know? thanks

It is a little bit of a pain sometimes and hasn't really impressed me, from the underside... from above - Great... from underneath... not as cool.

For Example -

But, with a bit of fabrication, you can make it look good.

I'm more or less on the fence on these currently

what does this question have to do anything with hoods?

and it's NO... unless you're stupid enough to drive in a 2' deep puddle of water. do some searching... it's been asked to death.

Hummm....lets see. If I have a vented hood that so happens to be positioned over the intake. Good thunderstorm comes along, and BAM enough rain soak and bye bye engine. I think his question has a lot to do with the topic of this thread.

On a lighter note, our AIT vented hood should be arriving Thurs. The AIT vented hood is the only hood that I know of that comes with a rain guard. Hence the reason for our choice.

Unfortunately, yes, it's coi's.

I really wish it was a little different on the inside... Tony (Taek) had it and I was like "AWESOME", till I saw the inside, really bummed me out, since I'm a clean freak and that'd really be tough to cover up and make look clean without some decent fabrication, and I'm not sure I'd be happy with the result.

It does drop way forward, right over the headers, so I'm not sure there'd be any cause of damage electrically.... Looks way better with the car than the AIT IMHO, because of its forward location...

So there are goods and bads...

If you want a vented hood I say go with the MotorFX vented hood. Yes it might not look as good as others on the underside but how often do people look at the bottom of a hood ? . Also I went to dinner one night with some friends and my car sat through a 2hr rain storm (and i mean it was RAINING). I have the weapon R SRI and when i drove it home i opened the hood and felt the filter and it was not wet.

You are one brave individual to even Attempt to drive it home after that.

i personally dont think that would cause any issues, just need some longer bolts and some thick rubber washers. what does that gap look like inch or maybe inch and a half?

The only legit reason that I can see why someone would want to put spacers on the hood like that would be so their ITBs would be breathing well..heres a friend of a friends' EK

nice hatch (might want to look at making a plenum for the itb's) and that is one reason that it is done but it also reduces the temps in the engine bay considerably especialy on the tc have you driven around for 30 min aggressivly then poped the hood?? it gets very hot now try it with a header with no heat shield lol ill have intake temp maps when i do it
