windshield cracked today!!
i was driving on the e-way and out of nowhere i hear a crack sound coming from the far passenger side. i looked over and there is a spiderweb crack right along the very edge about halfway up the side pillar. the thing is, i didn't see any rock or anything flying at me and when i look at and rub my hand over the outside of the windshield there is absolutely no chip or crack on the outside of the glass. it's perfectly smooth but you can see the crack is kind of in the middle of the glass.
is it possible that my windshield just cracked on it's own!!?? that's f*#@ed up but that's what it seems like.
is this something the dealer may take care of? i was going to go straight there but figured it may be best to wait a bit cuz i'm kinda ____ed at the moment and i don't want to go off on someone.

they're saying it is from impact from a rock or something. they also agree that there is no damage or chip whatsoever to the outside of the glass.
i have to admit it does look like impact must have caused it because of the way it is spider-webbed, all cracks running from a central point (of impact?)
the service manager said that they probably can't do anything about it but will try to have his rep take a look at it and see what we can do. the technician that looked at it was a real _______ and got an attitude with me and i told him to go f*** himself. the other service people were real nice though.
i took it to an auto glass place who would work with my insurance company and it's not repairable. i need a whole new windshield.
i'm either stuck paying $1275 ($500 deductible and obviously have to file a claim which will screw with my insurance) to go with the oem 'asahi' glass or i can get some other kind (i think PPG) made in the US that is original equipment on toyotas that are assembled in the US for $475.
two final words. this blows.

WHOA....$1275 for the windshield?
I was quoted at $365 from a local body shop...only one w/ a tC windshield.
Sorry to here that. I have a bunch of big nicks in the center of my windshild from a large rock hitting it, didn't crack though. I'm also going to have to have mine fixed soon and I'm going to go with PPG if possible. My family has had quite a few windshilds replace and PPG's always work out real well, most of the time better then OEM. Good luck with whatever why you get it fixed, let us know how it goes. I'm not looking forward to someone messing with my car when they fix the windshild, but oh well.

My windshield cracked last week. I was quoted close to $1300 as well. There are aftermarket glasses you can get installed for around $300. But I read some stuff about the windshield being a vital support structure for the car, preventing the roof from caving in and all. So Ive decided to use my insurance and pay a deductable to get the factory glass and seal. It definitely sucks. My car is only 4 months old and it is hurt already.
Oh, dont bother trying to get it warranteed. Dealers will straight up tell you "NO". Ive tried.
