Default 06 Scion tC Squeaky Noise

okay so my car has a squeaky noise coming from the passenger side.
it sounds like it is coming from the motor.
It only squeaks when the car is cold, when i have it on drive, and when im idling.
it stops once i accelerate or once i put it on park.

i have a recording of it but i dont know how to post it up lol.

anyone have any idea what it is?

please help me.

and thanks

Try turning on/off ac and defrost. I thought I had a bad Lilly or belt. Turned out it was one ive the fans. I noticed it more with the defrost on in the winter since it kicks the fan on from the ac. Worth a shot

Hmm. Do you have an amp running in your car or frequent high rpm ur motor ? Those things will kill an alternator quickly if you have an amp and already don't have one I'd get a capacitor did you change the belt when u did the alternator

Question

it could be the belt tensioner. For those who have replaced the belt tensioner is it required to loosen the engine mounts and use a jack to push the engine up to get one of the belt tensioner bolts out? Sorry not trying to thread jack, i might put up a separate thread..

you have a serpentine one piece belt that drives all the accessories on the side of the engine. things like the power steering pump, alternator, water pump and a/c compressor. most of us call that a drive belt, well the drive belt needs constant tension on it to stay in place. On the tC there is a part that has a pulley on it that keeps constant tension on the belt and adjusts accordingly as the belt ages, relaxes, stretches out.

the tensioner pulley or the tensioner (hydraulic strut) goes bad, either by not holding the pressure or the pulley's bearings go bad and the pulley starts making noise. Sometimes a squeak or a rattle noise.

So the part that is going bad is the pulley right?
Is it something that i HAVE to change?

it could be a possibility but DOES NOT mean the tensioner is bad or the pulley. Could be an old drive belt, belt could've gotten contaminated. I know when the water pump went it leaked coolant through the weep hole (on the pump) all over the drivebelt. Ruined that belt, belt began to make noises, squeaks, whirring, pops.. Sure it continued to work OK, but it wasn't optimal. I'm going through that now where I was thinking the pulley was bad til I realized if the bearing was going bad it would make noise all the time (like it did the last time it went bad), not just when it was a little damp outside. That is classic belt noise when moisture is around. you could get yourself some rubber tubing like 2 feet or so, put one to your ear and another around where you think the noise is.. and use it as a stethoscope.. that would help ya find the noise easier. I actually have one from harbor freight that looks like a doctor's stethoscope it has a metal rod as the probe to listen to things. Sometimes it's WAY too loud, lol.. so the rubber hose should work better.

Does your noise go away after awhile? Think of when it happens.. what's the weather like.. had it rained, was it dry? things like that.

EDIT: just re-read your first post. Take a look down low in between the drive belt and pulleys.. do you see a pink-salt-crusty sort of powder? Get a really bright light and look down there..
