07 Scion tC Decel Noise (Whine)
Hey everyone! I just noticed this odd sound coming from the engine bay on my way to work this morning. When I am at highway speeds and I let off the gas, there is a significant rattle and it sounds really like bursts of air hitting the car in the front. I'm not sure what the issue is. Was going to take a look at the intake after work, but it seems like a very odd noise. The noise only happens on decel at higher speeds. The noise goes away when I get on the gas. Any thoughts?

Auto or manual? If it's a manual, check your gear oil level. Also, check the engine mounts. The engine ____s around when it goes from accel to decel, and bad engine mounts could cause it to shift far enough to touch/rub against something.

Sorry, its a 5psd manual.
This is exactly what my mechanic friend told me. He said since it's getting colder, old gear oil could be causing the issue.
Thanks for the reply! I'll check the engine mounts as well. I did have the engine swapped 3 years ago by the stealership.

I just changed out my gear oil for Valvolene fully synthetic 75/90 and my car does shift smoother but it did not solve the "wooshing" noise that I get on decel. I plan to look at my motor mounts tomorrow as well as determining if i have an exhaust leak or something.

Exhaust leak is another possibility. So crazy story...my car started doing this on the drive home last night! It's doing it around 60mph on decel. So strange it happened the same time as you. Seriously WTF, haha.

No problem. Planning to install my turbo kit that's been lying around this weekend. I'll check that out as well. FYI, I have brand new Energy Suspension engine mounts, so it's definitely not that. Probably either an exhaust leak (which I will end up solving anyway) or possibly low on gear oil, which would be crazy since I just had the trans installed this summer with brand new OEM axle seals.
