Default 2.4ltr with 160bhp, wtf?

When I first heard about the Scion tC a few days ago, I thought wow, this car looks cool. £11k and its a 2.4ltr, I was like woohoo, im getting one :D

Then I find out its only 160bhp with 163lbs of torque, why is this? Is it cos of its low compression ratio or what? I mean a standard Mr2 2ltr NA comes with about 175bhp standard.

Can someone enliten me please

well to answer your question you need to understand that the 2.4 was designed for the camry, a family sedan. it produces modest power and modest torque, coupled with an aggressive transmission and you have a preppy car. The MR2 and the tC are not the same. And you are correct the 2.4 does have low compression at 9.6:1

Well, the old mechanics used to say "horsepower doesn't mean all that much." What is really important is how much makes it to the wheels when. The Tc goes 0-60 in 7.4 seconds. So many of those old muscle cars which had twice the HP would kill for that kind of speed. If you want a race car, look elsewhere. But if you want a fast car that corners beautifully that won't beat you up on the highway - then Tc is your car. I've put 3200 miles on mine and have found the speed to be quite nice even though it "only" has 160hp. Of course, I don't go racing every third car that comes along, either. But when I need to make that quick start on the highway, all the power I need is there, in abundance.

I wasnt saying this is slow, im just saying in comparrison to other cars the power output seems a bit low.

Obviously I cant judge cos I have never been in one, let alone seen one in the flesh so i cant say. Although thinking about it, the EK9 civic has about the same about of horsepower with about 2/3s of the amount of torque the tC has, and that thing is RAPID!

Being in the UK, its kinda hard to test drive a car that dont exist over here. Still isnt changing my mind tho, im still getting one

This car hardly corners at all. The handling on the TC sucks ___ stock.

thats funny i just got back from cambridge on sunday, lots of the cars there suck, the ford ka and the seat ibiza are crap, the clio v6 one is cool but its way pricey

while i was there i really missed my car there are so many roads that would be fun to drive, if i was still in the army i would have my car there and have lots of fun, if you can find a way to import the car there good luck, you will love it, and next time you cross the pond come over and hang out, will let you test drive mine,

i would also like a car from over there a puegot 206 gti 180

"It has a 2.0 litre 16-valve four cylinder petrol engine which delivers 180 bhp at 7,000 rpm, a top speed of 143 mph*, and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 7.1 seconds*. Engine performance has been enhanced with VVT (variable valve timing), which ensures optimum engine torque is delivered through a wide engine speed range, for smooth driving around town and performance driving out on the open road."

the full article is here

http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/peugeot_206gti.asp these cars seem realy bad ___ to me like a fast xa lol i wanted an xa till i saw how weak they were i would take one of these.

Compared to something like an STI or similarly priced car, true - but compared to the majority of cars on the road, I would dare say that the Tc corners better than them. If you want cornering as in a true sports car, then you need to look elsewhere. But the problem is that the better cornering you get, the harsher the ride.

It is a stretch of gigantic proportion to say that the handling on the Tc sucks stock. Going around curves 20-30 mph faster than the posted limits is hardly indiciative of a poorly handling vehicle, I would think.

I don't get why an American car company would build a European Focus better than an American Focus. You would think it would be the same, if not better.

That may be true excitebox, but you also got like 255 lbs of torque. Now there is also another optional engine in that line that had the same size V8 5.0L but got about 225 hp with 295lbs of torque. So I guess it depends on which you got........weird that thye would offer two engine that are the smae size but different outputs. Even weirder that they would offer a V8 with only 170hp........

sheep, my camaro is a green 1992 RS 25th anniversary (badge on teh dash but not the stripe/wheel package tho ) they may have given the ballsier engine to the Z28 or maybe even the 25th anniversary package RS's. i love camaros, ive had 3 of them, but the v8 is killing me with gas

22b had more than 280hp , it was closer to 400 for the TRUE 22B that they only made like 400 of, most of which didnt leave japan and 24 uk-spec ones...
