Default 2008 Transmission Problems

Hey all. Tonight my transmission stopped working correctly. My 3rd and 4th gear don't work. Third and fourth go in without clutching in and it feels extremely smooth with absolutely no resistance. I still have to clutch in for 1st, 2nd and 5th but 3rd and 4th goes in without clutching. In-fact, I can put the gear selector into 3rd without the clutch and the car will not move, not even a shudder. As far as fourth gear, I don't have to clutch in either but when when I DO clutch in and then clutch out, 4th gear begins grinding.

I have no transmission or motor modifications as I am mechanically bone stock with only 42,800 +/- miles on the meter. Anyone ever experience this? Should I expect a hassle from Scion? I intend on going in tomorrow and any background info on recalls, tsb's, or general issues that other Scion tC owners are experiencing.

if you went with the standard 33,000 mile warranty, your screwed.
if you paid for the 75,000 mile warranty like i did, your good

How much should I expect to pay if it is the clutch?

NOT the clutch . . . shifter fork or gears on that fork . . . if the linkage is moving properly then there is a problem inside the tranny. If you have been banging gears then it was weak and you broke it but if you always shift normally and don't rest your hand on the shifter when driving then it sounds like a defect and if so then they may cover it if enough of them break even if beyond the warrenty.

I just came back from the dealer and as an update, my service advisor says someone who serviced my transmission poured the incorrect fluid in there. She said the fluid has the viscosity similar to used engine oil. Which baffles me because they never touched the transmission as far as I am concerned and neither have I. I cannot at the moment assume or vouch the same for the original dealership I bought my tC from, though. Anyway..they said they are covering it under warranty although I may be out of a tC for a week or so. At-least they are helping out the consumer after the purchase! (wo0t!). I guess I'll give an update as I receive them.

you should be covered for a loaner car unless they have a problem with loaning a car to somebody under 25 or whatever, some places do, some don't, mine doesn't.

They loaned me one. An 09 Camry. Man this thing is beat up! People have no consideration for others property for real. 2 ft scuffs on the hood, 2 dents on the passenger side door, the splash shield and fog-light cover is missing on one side, the interior carpets have stains and miscellaneous dents and scratches littered all over the car. The rental only has 1380 miles or so. Incredibly ridiculous. I'm about to clean this car up for these people for real haha.
