201Whp N/A Update **BC Cams Installed**
Yo jimmyjun love what you've done so far and I'm trying my best to be on the same path. Wondering if you have considered trying to use the camcon vvti/afr controller? That way you can control the vvti and still control the afr like the apex'i.
Hmm....after reading about the Camcon controller I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on this one JimmyJun. I haven't come across to many people saying that they are using this but then again not a lot of people go the N/A route.
controllers, my plans are to install the cams and tune, if i get a cheqp
camcon from mu friend ill use it just to tune the vvti and the neo to tune a/f.
The Apex neo is more robust and can give you data which is a definite plus. After reading the breakdown of what the Apex neo does it sounds like a great way to get even more out of our motor because it has the ability of controlling the vvti.
The Camcon does state that it does change the A/F ratio and controll vvti but I guess its all up to preference as to what you want to use. Personally, I like being able to see the data right in front of me and being able to collect and analyze from different conditions so the apex-neo would be more up my alley because I don't necessary have steady access to a dyno.
Wow....$1,500 is up there! I'm leaning towards the Apex neo personally. Since it can control vvti & afr with having the capability of giving you live data that's a N/A tuner's dream and definite plus with spending half as much for a standalone or the Dezod apr.
update: the engine is out of the car, we are fixing a tranny issue (3 gear). and cam installement. car shpuld be up
& running by the next weekend.
I wonder if Dezod has had the X1 re-calibrated for the TC MAS yet or if they're still using the Tacoma MAS programming and trying to tune around the differences? My X1 MAS signal slope and resulting ECU calculated MAF was off by about 20% due to these differences! The $1800 APR X1 worked like ____ on my 08 XB but YMMV. MAF off by 20%, no rev-limiter and my AT wouldn't shift properly. I sold it back to Dezod for $1200 after wasting several months with it (the best I could get without a lawyer).
IMO the APR X1 has the potential to be the best EMS available for Toyota/Scion but only if the necessary R&D is performed to tailor it to indivdual applications. As-is, it's the ultimate piggy back for the Tacoma trucks it was specifically designed for. Maybe it works better on TCs but it didn't work satisfactorily on my AT XB. Caveat emptor.

Sorry to hear things didn't work out Fred. When I switched to blow-through my MAF loads were spot on. The X1 obviously doesn't affect my shifting because I have a manual. I had problems with heat soak with my FI set up (before I switched to a blow-through set up), but for an NA application I would imagine that wouldn't be a problem.
I'm glad it works better for you than it did for me. It's capabilities are impressive.
