Default 2nd & 3rd gear gone

I have a manual transaxle and my powertrain warranty expired. my third gear went out first but was able to shift and drive in the other gears. then 6k miles later my second gear went out. i have had my transaxle fluid exchanged at every 15k miles. What happens now is when i shift into 2nd or 3rd it will either pop out of those gears or it will have a gear clash sound. I was told it may be the synchronizer hubs but I need another opinion because my other previous cars have manual adjustments at the shifter cable or at the shift lever on the transmission. just need to know if there are simple fixes for this problem Im having.

Has anyone had this problem? Is it an internal issue? Is it the shift linkages? What do you guys think?

It sounds like your transmission is completely shot. You should either have someone do a transmission rebuild, or completely pick up a new used one. I've seen them for 800 bucks on some online salvage yards with 20k miles.

i was afraid it would be a major problem like that but i thought transmission internals shouldn't go out earlier than the original clutch. i have 85k on the oem clutch and have no slippage on the remaining gears that are functional. right now my car still drives but its irritating to shift from 1st straight to 4th gear with traffic on my ash from every stop light.
main question is do our transmission have manual adjustments anywhere along the shift cables?

What year tC do you have and how many miles are on it? Sorry about your transmission, but I've seen used ones do go for around 600-800.
Edit: just saw you have an RS1. Ouch!

Do you shift hard? Could be just bad habits. I would go to this junkyard search engine. It will show you all the used parts in your area. www.car-part.com

second and third gear syncro, you'll have to get your tranny rebuilt. when you do make sure its a reputable company b/c you dont want problems with this later on.

thanks guys. im convinced its the syncros or the shifting forks. either way the tranny needs to be replaced. i must admit i do nonsequential downshifts at times at midrange rpms. what i meant was i would downshift from 5th to 3rd gear for a little more pep when overpassing someone going 55mph on freeway. i wont be doing that anymore unless i use synthetic gear lube. i will have to take it in to have it looked at when im ready to have it fix. probably next year during tax time. i already drove the car without 2nd and 3rd for like 3k miles. i hope the trany holds up until the day i have it replaced.

thanks guys.

tranny will hold just fine its just ur synchros u can drive like that for life aslong as u hold the shifter in gear and bang into gear...

say if it didnt wanna go in second, bang the gear in, and if it pops out just hold it in there, not all cars used to come with synchros..
