It's also about 500lb lighter.

EDIT: No, it doesn't have a 6 speed. It has either a 5-speed or a CVT.

the 500 lbs doesnt make that big of a difference when your comparing a 110 hp? versa to a 160 hp tc. i think the 50 hp difference makes up for the 500 lb difference. your arguement (IMO) isnt justifing anything.

well considering that in 5th gear (manual) when im at 65-75 im also crusin at 3000-4000 rpm which i think is way too high, if we had a 6th gear that could knock that down to about 2000-3000 rpm then i would be a lot happier, and the tC would have much better gas milage
6th gear doesn't automatically make for better gas mileage or it would be an option on the Camry. The only result of a 6-speed would be closer gears, not longer:

tC 5-speed:

1st= 3.538
2nd= 2.045
3rd= 1.333
4th= 0.972
5th= 0.775

Lexus IS250 6-speed:

1st= 3.791
2nd= 2.275
3rd= 1.524
4th= 1.185
5th= 1.000
6th= 0.786

2003 Celica GTS 6-speed:

1st= 3.17
2nd= 2.05
3rd= 1.48
4th= 1.17
5th= 0.92
6th= 0.82

You're right. [link="http://www.carpages.ca/go/roadtest/2007_nissan_versa_preview.aspx"]This[/link] says it's a 5-speed, though. My bad. But still, it's 500lb lighter, and I'm pretty sure has a lower cd than our car does.

i kinda understand that, it just seems to me that if the tC had another gear then the car wouldnt be as loud and the gas milage would be better. i mean 3500 rpm at crusing speed (doing the speed limit) is kinda rediculous...

I don't think anybody's here to argue. I'm just saying if it would be worthwhile for us to have a 6-speed, I think someone would have done it by now.

well... to be honest the tC seems a little more aerodynamic then a versa

i honestly dont think that if the 6 speed was worth while toyota would have done it.... i think they stuck in the 5 speed because they used the camry engine and it mated up to it perfectly instead of designing a new transmission that would make the tC sportier and more enjoyable to drive.

plus 6 speed is cool cus you get more bragging rights

I don't know, it seems like a lot of you just want a 6 speed cause thats what you've learned as cool....most economy cars were/are 5 speeds.....i mean if you're at 3500 rpm at 80+ mph on the freeway, then you should just slow down to 75 and it be all good.....for daily conditions on the road, a 5 speed is just fine....most of the time in my z, i won't get to 6th gear without bogging down the engine cause on street roads you don't have the opportunity to get to 55+mph, and lights, and traffic, etc.....

how bout a camry 5th gear swap, does it have a taller 5th gear, or maybe a taller final drive? that would sound more feasible, could someone post camry gear ratios

OK, well not looking for an argument. I suppose I have my answer then, but what about changing the gearing in the current tranny?

These are the Camry rations:

1st Gear 3.538
2nd Gear 2.045
3rd Gear 1.333
4th Gear 0.972
5th Gear 0.731

And a Final Drive of 3.944.

i haven't driven a tC for a while, but are you shifting at through each gear? cause i don't remember being that high up in rpm at 65-70......as i remember, at 80 i was like around 3300-3500 rpm....

A proportional 6th gear would only ease stress on an engine while going downhill. We do not make enough torque to make use of it while cruising or going uphill. If you wanted to cruise or accelerate, you would have to downshift.
Completely inefficient.

I love when this arguement pops up. It's stupid.

well, what is the final drive for the tC, cuz lookin at the camry ratios, we acctually have a longer 5th gear, so it would be pointless
