Default 2005 xB Engine Removal

Has anyone pulled an engine from an xB lately? I did a search and found a post from 2011. In it , vettereddie told of pulling the engine from the top , without the transmission, rather than dropping the engine and transmission together ( as described in the FSM). He said he had pictures but I can't seem to find any. Has anyone else done it this way? I'm working on an '05 with an automatic transmission. It seems pulling the water pump and harmonic balancer are required to get clearance to separate the engine from the tranny before lifting it out. Just looking at it, it seems doable and much less hassle than the drop down method in the FSM ( which I have). Thanks!
