93 octane CEL problems
I just thought I'd check to see if anyone else is having this problem..
It seems like everytime I try to put 93 octane in the car my CEL will come on within 30 miles of when I leave the gas station.
To avoid this I've been using 87 octane pretty much for 6 months now.. No CEL ever.
This isn't really a problem at all since the car runs exactly the same with 87 as 93, and being cheaper is a plus. But I just found it odd..
Anyone else have this happen to them?

Hmm, maybe it's not the octane, maybe it's something else..
I haven't even tryed to put 93 octane in for a few months now and haven't had any CEL's.. I'm going to put 93 in tomorrow and see if it does it again.

Yeah..Im not understanding why its being run at all...especially if its causing you to get CELs. In the long run you may be causing more harm than good since the engine doesnt have enough compression to completely combust the fuel. This can lead to accelerated depositing of carbon in the combustion chamber, cats being fouled sooner and a decrease in gas mileage. Youre basically just throwing money away.
No reason at all to use 93 octane on a car that is made to run on. You will see no benefits from running a higher octane. Its possible that the CEL is coming on because the fuel maps are run for 87 octane, and it may be reading a misfire in all 4 cylinders. Don't hold me to that, since im not 100% sure.
