Airbox mod
Dont mind me, I did a search but my brother used to have one of thse cars and he was telling me about a cheap mod you could do to the stock airbox by taking the resonator (im guessing thats what the extra box is) off and capping it with a plumping cap from lowes and then removing a smaller filter in the airbox. Is this true and if so is it safe?

yeah.. taking off the resonator box thingy and capping it off is fine.. many people have done it..
as for removing a small filter from the airbox?? umm.. unheard of... just don't take out the drop-in filter.... i know an umm... unsmart person that thought the charcoal filter was sufficient enough and took out his air filter....

hahah ya I know alot more about cars then that. Thanks for the friendly warning. I was just wondering what part he was talken about cause I didnt quite understand the whole removing the other air filter thing....meh maybe ill just leave it. I dont think it will make much of a difference at all anwyays.

i've had friends take apart the airbox.... as in removing the bottom part of it, and tape the air filter to the top... basically having it open.. kinda ghetto, but they say it helps.
if you want a good airbox mod... do this...
tak out the bottom portion of the airbox, tape the filter to the bottom part of the top portion of the air box.
this will increase the amount of air going in (1hp or something or nothing) but will definite increase noise at WOT :D

removing the bottom will increase flow by a very small percentage.. as well as suck in hotter air from the engine bay.. I would say the two will negate each other at best. The stock airbox pulls its air from the fender well.
i never said anything about this being a HP mod..
in fact. it probly doesnt give you any HP at all.
its just for sound

Heres a good sound mod for it. Get an engine block plug from Autozone and plug that resonator hole. Then remove the plastic tube that connects to the airbox that runs into the fender hole. Then remove that charcoal crap at the top on the inside of the airbox. Sounds great afterwards! Close to what the Umnitza intake sounds like but the Umnitza intake is so much louder.
I think you'll gain a little power through hacking the airbox... as much as any short ram...
What is my basis for this ? Trap speeds. I noticed an average gain of about 1-1.5 MPH after hacking.
While this isn't "dyno proven," it's as good an estimate as any. You'll have fun with the mod whether it gives you power or not.

no i dynoed my car stock
then header with that airbox hack.
it doesnt give you any HP... maybe increases response a little because air is not easier to flow in and out.
unless it gave me .5 or less HP and didnt notice it
