Auto drive to third ....damage???
Ok, I've got one for all you transmition guru's. I was sitting in my tc the other day, and my friend asked what would happen if he tapped the shifter from drive to third on the highway.....I didn't know exactly what to say. I told him that scion would have thought about something like that, and that it wouldn't bow the engine or anything.
What would happen doing 65 or 70 in an auto if shifted from d to 3???

the difference between D and 3 is one simple thing... overdrive. you shift into 3 and it takes off overdrive thats all it does, more "power" available. you wont hurt your engine at all, 3 can handle up to 100 i think so as long as you dont go past that your engine is fine.

If your wheels are spinning faster than 3rd gear can handle, you can go ahead and shift to 3rd on the shifter, but the computer won't obey you. It'll just stay in D until you decrease your speed. Its almost idiot proof. When you do slow down enough for it to downshift, it will engine brake, same as in shifter position 2 or 1......just at higher speeds.
I wish I had a clutch
On a side note, it is possible to stall the automatic in the tC haha.

putting your car in "L" prevents the transmission from shifting past 1st hear, "2" prevents it from shifting past 1st or 2nd, "3" prevents it from shifting past 1st, 2nd or 3rd and "D" allows the transmission to use all 4 gears. That is all, why doens't anyone say it simply?
