Auto vs 5-speed
^^ Cool. That's the way I feel about my auto. Have more than enough power to merge & get around the snowbirds. And don't wear out my lazy old leg when I'm crawling home on the interstate after somebody wrecked 10 miles ahead.

Couldn't find times for stock auto.
8.3 seconds for stock i watched a video on road and track a WHILE ago, and i remember that part. It was what they ran, not estimated claims. The 5 speed ran 7.2.
Can't remember elevation or air temps at the time of testing though. Which believe it or not is a HUGE difference
Thanks for the numbers. The tC Faq Site lists the stick between 7.4 - 7.8, which falls in line with what I found earlier. 8.3 is not far from the high end of that range - but I'd still like to see more numbers. 7.2 is fastest I've seen for stick yet.
Like you're alluding to there's always disparity in these numbers. There was a thread last year from an auto that ran 8.5 on his OBD timer, but for some reason he didn't floor it until he hit 20 MPH
Then there's Consumer Reports who ran 8.8 with a stick. Hey, I like CR but that must have been grandma driving it.

"Sport Compact Car" = 7.8 seconds w/AEM intake + TRD exhaust (those mods help or hurt?)
"Road & Track" = 7.4 seconds
"Motor Week" = 7.6 seconds

1/4 mile or autox is a different story, but the auto has good low end pull and only about 10whp peak less than stick => I would estimate less than 0.5 second difference 0-60.
Either way the tC is no slouch, but it's not a fast car. You may disagree, but the only way you can use "tC" and "fast" in the same sentence is to add one more word - "turbo".
i am simply stating my experience with both the stick and the automatic
IMO Fast is relative. Not trying to debate that a 15+ second car is "fast". But it is relatively fast. Relative to a N/A 4cylinder. Lets say a family sedan ran a 14.0sec 1/4mi. That could be considered pretty fast, but if a fully built 350 V8 ran a 14.0sec, that would be considered really slow.
This might be easier to understand.... Completely random numbers....
Scion tC 0-60=5.5 seconds.... WOW!!! How many turbos are on this thing!!!
C6 Corvette 0-60=5.5 seconds....What the Eff is wrong, it's sooo slow
Do you understand what i'm trying top say, i know it's a little confusing? Either way the tC is peppy, and can be quick, or fast, with different mods

I have an auto, don't know how to drive stick (and I didn't want to take the chance of learning on my brand new 1st car
since there are no sticks in the driveway) and I have no regrets. I have absolutely no problem getting around slow drivers in any lane and most situations. Then again, I am the person who, several times while driving between Cincinnati and Indianapolis for college, would pass people on the right in my previous car (85 grand marquis) - didn't push the car either - and those people would be driving a "sports car". I always loved their flabbergasted looks
Like someone said earlier in the thread, with the auto, if you floor it, the car will not shift until you either let go or go redline (assuming redline, I've never taken the RPMs that high).
The only regret I have about not getting a stick is just that, not getting a stick. Mostly because everyone talks about how fun it is to drive one.
I guess what I'm basically saying is, get what you want. If you can, test drive them both. See which one you're more comfortable driving.
