Axle back runs from around the rear axle back and the cat back runs from the s-pipe or down pipe back.

basically axle back doesnt do squat but make your car sound nice..catback provides sound along with performance gains but if your tC is purely stocked then catback would do more harm then good. You will lose back pressure if you decided to go with the catback unless you done some work to the engine. Another difference is money, catbacks cost more because they come with a cat that sits by your exhaust tip, the moment you hit the gas, the cat gets poked with a custom stainless steel rod and in result the car roars so you get better sound.

Ok, so the tC is exhaust is like this.
Header > Spipe > First Midpipe Piece > Second Midpipe Piece > Axleback.

A Catback replaces the first and second midpipe piece, and the axleback. While the axleback is the axleback only.
