I thought a year ago people were having issues w/ the 05 engines - I tried to seach on the topic but didn't find the post I was looking for. Anybody remember what I am talking about?

 

I have an 05 with 112K miles and no problems here and I don't remember seeing a post about it either.

 

i have an 05 with 69k and nothing if the problem goes for the 05 then the 06's would have the same problem

 

ive got an 05 with 40k and boosted for 2 yrs... no problems either. then again, i keep up with the required maintenence and i dont beat on my car.

 

i think what you might maybe be referring to was some problem with a valve sticking open or something, very rare problem, and here we all are 4 years later, and our engines are fine. i've had my 05 since 11/04, and i got over 62K miles, and i'm supercharged, and autocross with it, no engine problems whatsoever.

 

i think i had also heard something about bad main bearings? its been awhile... but no issues

 

^ yea - i remember something .... ive been on this forum for a while now ...and ive heard most issues about most things - its just been a while and i forget. I just know my car was running perfect last week and im confronted w/ things right now

 

whats going on? what have you done to the car? (mods) and what symtoms are you having?

 

^the car is at the dealer - there are a bunch of issues that are in the toyota system about the 05 engines - 05 was the first year of the tC and there were surely issues w/ that year

 

i had bad bearings in mine and toyota replaced the engine.....mine is an 05....it was around 22k i think...

 

when exactly did you guys do the engine swap... when you got the car closer to 05? or recently?

 

mine was done in 2006 around december I think.. I bought it brand new in 05... Do a search for bearing failure and you'll find it

 

this is why toyota came out after that and recommended that all 06's use 5w-20 oil. Thinner = able to lubricate in tighter spots. you get the idea. friend has an 06 was using 5w-30 oil like their manual says to use, the dealer switched it over to 5w-20 because of the tsb (tech service bulletin) and no more engine roughness when started in cold weather. so yeah there is something to using the 5w-20 oil!
