The intake manifold gasket I ordered should be in today; I will install that thing on Monday cuz I took that day off from work cuz it's my b-day (yay me!). I will let you all know how it goes! I really hope this does the trick..!

Hey I fixed the problem.. praise God!

"Here is the short version".. The pcv valve was bad!

"Here is the long version".. On Monday, I replaced the intake manifold gasket; well when I had it removed I noticed a lot of oily residue on the runners of the intake manifold (on the inside of the intake manifold). I knew that was not normal! And the only thing that could cause that would be a pcv valve stuck open. Almost a year ago I cleaned out the pcv valve and I heard it rattle around so I figured it was fine... WRONG!!!!

Today I installed a new one and I decided to test the old one and yeah..wow, that thing was crap!! The new one even looks different on the bottom, maybe its an updated one? Well after I tested it, it hit me, that was the reason for my low oil level; every time I changed my oil it was mad low.. It made me think I was burning oil

Anyways ladies and gentleman, this is just another solved problem on SL

Btw, when I installed the new pcv valve, that dang thing kept spinning (the valve cover got stripped), I had to put a little form a gasket stuff on the threads, don't confuse that with RTV or silicone, it's different!

YAY!!!

^I might give that a try. I'm s/c'd so naturally i should be getting worse mileage but even when i drive "nice" for an entire tank my light comes on around 220 miles. I average 20mpg. I'm going to get my tires aligned, balanced and rotated (because its been so long), clean the maf and since the pcv valve is like five bucks, maybe pick up a new one.

Just to double check. The PCV valve is on the passenger side correct?

yes it's on the passenger side. Have to take the plastic cover off the top of the engine to access the area. And you use a 22mm boxed end (closed) wrench to remove and reinstall. The service manual said to use a deep socket 22mm but I don't see how it can fit in there without moving stuff. The 22mm wrench worked fine.

also the clamp that is on the pcv hose, note the direction the clamp is facing (should be to the right as you look at it from the front of the engine) make sure that you put the clamp back in the same direction it is.

If you get the PCV valve from the dealer, it comes with a loctite sealant already on the threads. And it's only 14 ft-lbs so it isn't super tight when tightening it.

my gas mileage seems to suck too. im gonna try cleaning my MAF soon, clean out the car to save some weight, maybe replace my PCV like you guys have said, and lastly, would it be a good idea to maybe ditch the spare tire and just get some tire sealant and an air compressor?

^^Wow how bad is your gas mileage? I have 2" 10s, a big amp, 110 sq ft of edead, and the spare with tools. I still get around 33 mpg on straight highway sometimes more, and around 26 city which i dont do a lot.

^honestly, i dont have numbers for you. part of the problem is i never have the money for a full fill-up so it seems to go so much faster. ill fill up full and reset my trip computer so i can give some figures. i didnt mention it in my post but i want to do all those things for all around performance. fuel economy is just part of it. also, my tC's got 80K miles on it and im sure it's never had a MAF cleaning. its way overdue i think.

UPDATE: i filled up a few days ago and now that im down to 3/4's a tank, i did the math and i apparently got about 22 MPG. some of you guys are talkinga bout getting like 32 MPG so...improvments can be made. when payday comes imma head over and get some MAF cleaner, an air compressor, and some tire sealant. that way i can ditch my spare to save a chunk of weight, and everybody says cleaning the MAF helps your MPG's go up too.

i just bought a TC as my daily and noticed this car is horrible on gas. i don't think it has anything to do with the MAF. this car has real short gears... so short that i'm thru all 5 before i cross an intersection... on the highway, my RPM's sit at 4K+ while doing 75 mph!!!

yea that is where we all sit yet i still get 33 mpg on average and that is good enough for me. a lot of this bad gas mileage has to do with the way people drive, they may say they go slow but I am sure most of them don't and change gears at 4k or higher on a consistent basis.

Yup, horrible Gas mileage for tC. I get 260-270 miles on a full tank and when I do drive like a 80 yr. grandma changing gears early holding back traffic on the highway I only manage 290.

i have never actually gotten 14 gallons out of the car, you would have to run it dry to get that much. The most i think i have ever gotten on a tank was like 420 on like 13.1 gallons, so 32 mpg.

no one ever said that the MAF was the answer to all the fuel economy problems. But when some of us fell into 14-16mpg, cleaning the MAF brought it back to about 24-25. Then when that didn't work, dumping a can of 44K fuel cleaner (from BG Products) into the tank, filling the tank and running that out. Usually does it, improving the fuel economy.
