I am so glad i dont live in Cali...here, all we have to do is pass inspection, which basically involves seat belts, working lights, and the fact that it HAS an exhuast, not open headers...

fix it tickets are kept down to tint mostly...but street racing is still illegal

SARCASM POWER ON

Well, obviously, people who drive modified cars have money to spend on I, H, E, big giant muffler tips, 20" chrome wheels, turbo kits, window tint, fancy electronics, big giant sponsorship stickers, gigantic wings, and multi-color eye bleeding paint jobs.

They're much better equiped to pay for a ticket than that guy blowing by in the stock BMW, Mercedes, Jag, Lotus, etc.

SACRASM POWER OFF

Heh, get a nice free-flowing quiet muffler and just cut off your stock exhaust tip.
Peel off your stickers
Keep your tint light
Then, do whatever the hell you want to your car inside.

The nail that sticks up gets hammered down. So don't stick up.

Sounds like a good idea. I guess that why I did that very thing about 6 months ago.

If you get a header, have the nuts welded on so you can attach the OEM heatshield. That pretty much solves that problem.

If you get a CAI, paint it black and throw a TRD sticker on it, or pilfer the CARB decal from a legal unit.

It's all about making it appear legal. It doesn't matter if if actually is. They won't look that close.
i like this idea so much i just might try it. i was at autozone yesterday and i noticed they sold pipes, hoses, cones, etc so you can assemble your own cai lol. anyways, are those cone filters any good? i didn't see a brand on them. otherwise, would i be better off with a k&n drop-in filter and attaching the hose from the airbox directly to the "brake duct" opening?

hmmmm.. this idea sounds pretty good actually. What other turbo Toyotas did we have besides the MR2? wouldn't be too hard to make a custom setup. Think it'd be street legal?

Ok... I dont know what part of Cali some people here live in but cops arent that dumb. There dumb in the sense that they pull us over for stupid reasons (or no reason for that matter) and they dont make much sense sometimes but there not stupid. They're not THAT stupid though. They do have training in what to look for. Cali is the strictest state and the police know what things are and arent stock in a car... especially since there always pulling people over for mods. IMO the only thing that will prob. work is not having all those stickers on your car. Who ever mentioned that before is right on.

TRD supercharger, cat back exhaust, and S pipe. Might be able to get away with a cat delete on the second cat.

K, just cause you fab something yourself it won't make it legal. Might as well just buy the parts already out.

My car is pretty modified and is still California street legal (California has the most strict emission laws in the world)

As for power adders. There aren't many items out there that are legal.

1. Get better tires.
2. suspension
3. Exhaust (something that doesn't look all riced out like the HKS hi power. Something that looks like it would be stock. I.e. TRD or the magnaflow exhaust
4. Flywheel
5. Port and Polish + Valve work
6. clutch
7. LSD
8. Supercharger
9. Shift kit of some kind (many out there)
10. Down pipe
11. K this one is optional but if you have exta cash a high flow cat. The cat converters that come on factory cars are extremely efficient and some people even find a performance loss when using an aftermarket high flow cat. (I personally don't have one)

All that with factory s/c psi you should be running low 14s /high 13s and still be cali legal. Well maybe not high 13s, but i have no idea how a P&P + valve work would affect the system. so hard to say. I'm guessing a 30 whp increase. and perhaps 25 ft lbs

There are other mods like the pullies etc. But that is your own decision. Some people say it damages your car. some say they don't

On another note. I like modifying and trying to stay cali legal. Its more of a challenge.

In all sports there are rules and regulations. I.e. Performance enhancing drugs. Weight classes. Equipment and tool regulations (like you can't use dynamite in bass fishing etc)

In a nutshell. Any tard with a wrench can make a car faster if he doesn't pay attention to laws. A good tuner can make a car go fast and obey those laws

American muscle cars 73 and prior are carb exempt and you don't smog them. So you can drop anything into a shell and as long as everythilng is DOT approved, your lights work, and nothign violates sound laws. your good. Wich is why american muscle is still fast and they get to look down on newer imports (let an american muscle guy look down on a lt1or rb powered 240 z)

If we could drop anything we wanted into a shell and still drive them on the streets. There would be much less talk commin from the big displacement guys

Yah its legal for the tC.

As long as the parts don't tamper with any of the factory emissions parts.

it may be technically legal to have it but the cop who stopped you wouldnt know that. he still have the right to give you a ticket and for you to go to the referee to get it checked.

Same thing happened at HIN nightshift in San Francisco in Sept. Well, I didn't see any tow trucks but the cops were squirting out tickets left and right. If it makes you feel any better, I think the cops were all over the DUB show too - those are mostly muscle cars, 300C's, mustangs, escalades, etc.

if it makes you cali guys feel better... we had a 250 car meet in a home depot parking lot up here... even though we had the north, south, east, west (blessing) of the home depot and the local popos... the staters still gave out a ridiculous amount of tickets for stupid stuff and took two kids to jail for pretty much nothing... so its not just cali. i think SEMA needs to get more involved in this crap... its hurting the market and the culture...

Except the cops that towed/ticketed people in Calfornia, were ticketing people that actually were in violation of some laws... the way they were caught is entrapment in my opinion though.

The discussion isn't about cops being jerks, i think the thread is getting a lil off topic.
