so i was crusing with a friend, and he was behind me, and i got on it, and he said whenever i shifted i shot smoke.

i bought the car from carmax.
i think the person who had the car before me had a trd s/c with the 440cc injectors... sold the s/c when he got rid of the car, and forgot aobut the injectors. it would also explain why it doesnt seem like i get 30 mpg

 

ya that might be your problem. your dumping too much gas and not getting enough air. switch out your injectors to stock if your n/a and you should be fine...

 

NOPE on both counts my good sir. What your seeing is the carbon deposits burning off. I take it you dont drive your car hard all the time?

Or the car is running rich just like everyone says. And when he is getting back on it after shifting he is simply producing more exhaust pressure (And possibly running even richer when he gets on the throttle) which produces more smoke. Under normal driving our car isnt going to build up that much carbon. At some point it should produce a code, but if it is intermittent, it may not hold the rich condition long enough to set a hard code.

I wonder if the original owner also left the TRD reflash.
