So I was tightening my spark plugs to 20fttq as the instructions told me to and then I heard a snap now the thread of the spark plugs is stuck inside the hole. Need help to get it out. Any suggestions with out going to the auto shop. ???

did it tell you to torque it to in. lbs or ft. lbs?

20 ft. lbs? where'd you get those torque specs? sounds kind of high? from now on just tighten them by hand w/a ratchet and stop when it gives you resistance.... you could use a bolt extractor set to try and get the plug out......and you could try a re-threader kit for the spark plug hole, or a heli-coil kit which re-threads the hole, good luck man

 

i don't think that you can just drill it and tap it cause what about chips that will get into combustion chamber...
In my opinion the whole cylinder head need to be removed to fix it

thanks for all your help guys...i got the broken plug out by a bolt extractor and the metal shavings with a magnet....

Could it have maybe been inch lbs and not ft lbs?

 

Standard for ALL gasketed spark plugs is 13 ft lbs, or 1/2 turn past hand tight.

I didnt know at all. I just know at work a lot of mistakes people make is using the wrong torque value. I know if Garage1217 says ft lbs its ft lbs because he knows his shiz.
