K&N? Of course.. I warn everyone of that. You are one of the many I have heard of with this issue other than myself. Worst mounting design ever. I took the one I was given off after it broke mine. It will begin rattling like crazy after a while too. Considering mine was free.. and the CAI is 99.999% looks and sound.. its not a biggie to me.. but it really is a crappy design

it's actually a injen, dealer installed. wellknowing i'm not the only one doesn't make me feel better. metal snapping like that lowers my confidence the the build quality of the car, i mean the cai isn't THAT heavy. i wonder if a engine damper could have prevent this...

I have heard of a couple of injens doing that.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the car, it has to do with the quality of the intakes. That bracket is meant to hold the stock airbox, which has two other bolts securing it so it does not move. It is not the weight of the CAI, it is the fact that it moves when the engine torques, and the "smart" people that designed the mounting made it bolt to a piece that is not supposed to move. The stock mounting point would never break with the stock airbox, it is the poor design of the CAI's that cause it to break. An engine damper will help some since you reduce engine movement.. but personally if I ever put mine back on I will design a proper mount point. There are a lot of solid places to mount from. Then you just make a flex mount that will not put undo stress on everything

I was thinking of a flat plate with bolt holes that would connect it to the two mounting points on the feder. It would stick out enough for the CAI moutning point. Then, it would use a very soft rubber busing to mount the CAI to it. This should work a million times better than that original. What did you have in mind?
