Default CAI - InJen vs TRD

So I'm looking for a cold ait intake, and i was wondering which one is better, the InJen or the TRD. I know the TRD is more $$, but its genuine Scion etc etc. I dont wanna risk voiding the warranty, which i dont think a CAI would do that, but I'm just being paranoid. I also noticed that some people dont think an intake is worth a damn without a larger throttle body. opinions?

Talk some sense into me, plz...

Also, I'm planing on getting the TRD SC. Will the CAI fit directly on it, or will the pipes have to be modified?

1- Won't void your warranty unless you flood it. That's the only reason I would think that they could reasonably and legally use that against you. But to my knowledge, no one has flooded their tC due to a CAI. If you have water up to the level of the top 1/3 of the wheel, then you've got other problems!

2- Don't expect a world of difference, but yes, there is an increase in power, and a very noticeable sound difference.

3- Yes, you will need to modify the piping to work with the S/C... but it's done pretty regularly.

4- You'll get a difference without the use of a larger throttle body. Intake temperatures are MUCH lower, especially if you wrap the intake with insulation. My intake air temps are rarely above ambient, as measured by scangauge.

5- I went Injen. TRD is too pricey just for the name (in this case).

"plus one" as in you bought TRD? why did you choose TRD over all the other choices? after all the TRD CAI is at least $150 more then Injen which really does the same thing, just not "authorized" by scion.

i heard that you can pass smog checks / emission tests with the TRD CAI, and not so with any other aftermarket CAI. so a TRD CAI will save you the trouble of having to dismantle the CAI every time you go in to get a smog check.

but then, I live in CA, so ....

WTF?!? Where in the world did you get this information? I think you meant if he has the S/C installed right? Because if you are N/A, it won't.

TRD CAI is not CARB approved. Just like all the other CAIs out there.

If I had to choose one, I would go with the Injen CAI.

I bought an Injen CAI back in Oct '07. Heres my experience:

1) Better gas mileage (+4 mpg)

2) Better throttle response and acceleration.

3) Easy to install

4) Does not void warranty

5) Does not have to be modified with a TRD SC (Ive got one of those too...lol)

6) Your ECU does NOT need to be re-mapped because of CAI. You can if you want, but youll get MAYBE .5hp out of it. Maybe

7) Dont do Short-Ram, the Engine gets to hot and it wont make that big of a difference in throttle response if all your sucking in is hot air. Thus the reason for a CAI. lol

Hope 7 reasons are enough.

I prefer the Fujita intake myself. All the pluses of the Injen at less cost.

again, wont they reprogram the ecu as part of the s/c install to account for the increased airflow from the s/c itself?

Injen no question about it. I have the injen and my friend has the trd. The injen sounds so much better. IT is alot cheaper. And It givers you more power. What other reasons do you need?

ok csocso, i get it. now here comes the warranty question again. will reprogramming the ECU to account for the CAI after the reflash to account for the S/C void the warranty?

It wont void any warranties. Due to the fact that its a computer program (sort of) and that Scion can reprogram it if they need to for w/e reason. The warranty on the car is only voided if damage is made to part of the car that CANNOT be repaired easily.

Trust me, I know. Talked to Scion parts and service for days before I installed the CAI and S/C
