Default CARB Exempt Legal SRI for 2005 2006 tC Short Ram Intake

Here it is. Finally my search for a CARB exempt SRI is over until Injen makes one or atleast when a CAI one is made. I know K&N arent the best, maybe even the worst, but I though Id just post this here for those who are not wanting probs with the law and something of a SRI in their engine bay. lol

But the K& N is a modified stock intake housing to SRI

Here is a link to the site:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/appl...rod=69-8608TFK

I was contacted by a trusted parts site on the release just now.

Go to DirectTuning.com for the price with FREE SHIP/
But if anyone wants to go for a group buy. I'll heads it up. Eh, too fraid of beef w/ the law. But Maybe someone can get this intake and get it dynoed. I think we all would be interested on that. [/url]

Thread title is a bit misleading, as this page indicates it's only CARB exempt for 05 & 06, not 07.

If we can believe the dyno chart, 7.5HP would be nice, but I bet it'll be a fairly expensive kit. Anyone got a quote on the cost yet?

No saw blade needed. They include a new bottom to the box, and you reuse the stock upper air cleaner box. It's lame and you're better off making a GFI, but it's a legal store-bought solution.

Yeah they HAVE to reuse the upper part of the airbox because that's what the carbon filter is adhered to.

No stock carbon filter = no CARB exemption.

Oh and sorry for the misleading thread, i guess i read the carb exempt table wrong. my bad.
i dont think id buy this tho. its still stock looking and its SRI,
i've heard its not good. cause of the intake is right in the engine bay.

Engine heat + SRI = no good.?

but i got the insight to this new CARB intake from Direct Tuning.com

"You are looking at US$284.00 for this intake. We offer free shipping. "

Not bad eh.

Yeah f that my GFI intake is carb legal, get air from the front psuedo vent, looks better, and cost less than 100 bucks. Good job K&N too bad this was already developed by dr. isotope.

It's not bad for those of us in California, but why are you concerned with being CARB legal in Maine? Did they adopt CARB regulations recently, or are you planning on operating your vehicle in California on a long-term basis?

Uber lame. if your that worried about a CARB exempt "performance" part, i wouldnt even mod a car for performance. If i were you guys (those looking for a CARB approved unit) i would get a normal non-carb approved CAI or SRI, and when it comes time for your inspection and or emmission test, take it off before you go, and put the stock one back on. no biggy.

I don't where you read that, but the EPA doesn't approve or test aftermarket parts nor do they enforce emissions laws for individual vehicles, that's a function of the State your vehicle is licensed in. If you want to go with a CAI or SRI, you are free to do so as long as it meets your local and state laws, which to my understanding, California is the only state that intakes are an issue.

props to K&N for releaseing a CARB legal kit for us Californians. one less reason to get a $500 gross polluter/modified emissions equipment ticket.

i modded my air box by removing the charcoal filter, swiss-cheesing the bottom of the box, and adding a K&N drop-in filter. probably performs the same as this new K&N kit and looks stock.
