Damn! that thing looks ugly!

I'll go G.F.I. all the way... And oh, DAMN YOU C.A.R.B

Hmmm..... What if someone make a carbon filter in a little tube that can be installed inside a connector hose for the CAI or simply a carbon filter device that goes straight to the CAI tube and comes in different diameters?

Someone here in Scion Life should do it, or at maybe Dr. Isotope! for the pipz who lives where C.A.R.B. is enforced.

i'd like to see a replacement for the stock intake tube only, so I can retain the stock airbox (or combine it with the HKS cai). in japan, CAIs and open air filters are not very popular on NA cars. tuners seem to stick with the stock airbox with a different tube/pipe and a drop-in filter.

Here's an ARC tube for the 350Z (Nismo also makes one)

carbon fiber tube (not ARC)

Well thats what the GFI stage...two... I think does. Dr. iso used spectre parts which dont fit perfectly but do the same trick. I have the GFI and am completely happy with it especially since I didn't spend 200+ dollars on it.

I've already got a k&n filter, and I decided to mutilate the bottom of my intake to mimic the new k&n... Don't worry, I have a spare.

Now dyno's are hard to come by and I don't trust my butt meter, but I can tell you that it sounds insanely good! The only way I have to guage performance is to do first gear rolling pulls... I've noticed that I can maintain traction with a 100% stock set up, but I chirp 2nd. But with the mutilated box, I have traction problems between 4-5k. These cars aren't really that fast anyway, so even if it is slower (and from what I can tell, it isn't), at least the engine doesn't sound like a cheap used vacuum cleaner anymore.

i've done something similar with an is300 (joe-z intake) but this time im lookin for something with a little more sound (haha i know such a ricer). Living in CA might as well go carb legal if its not that much different in price from other intakes. not really lookin for power just a little sound.

i decided not to go for the intake. after i did order through hopup i guess k&n changed the price and went up 40bucks. after tax i was looking at 280ish, just not worth it imo for now. tell me how the GFI works out might just opt for that instead. what are the benefits of the GFI are they noticeable?

Are any intakes noticeable? Mostly they're just for sound and wont feel any difference. That is why spending under 100 for the GFI is a much wiser decision.

If we can believe the dyno chart, 7.5HP would be nice, but I bet it'll be a fairly expensive kit. Anyone got a quote on the cost yet?
Its believable but keep in mind they said 7.5 peak gain. Their not talking about usable hp across the whole power band, peak is easy to get, but get that kind of gain across the entire power band I would be impressed.

good choice. i know ive been looking for a CAI thats carb legal "in terms of the federals laws" and is at a decent amount. Im gonna tell you the truth. I dont think id buy anything over 200 for a little hp and some sound. so since all CAI are better than SRI in my opinion and 200$ can be better put elsewhere I decided for the GFI. It looks nice in the engine bay if you get the Spectre parts and also it helps remove heatsink from the tude to the throttle body. I got the parts yesterday and I can do a DIY with pics when I have the entire day SUN to put it in. Just let me know.

i was at ace hardware today with a friend, and picked up a 1.5" pvc pipe end. i took of the resonator and stuck it on to imitate the stage 2 GFI minus stage 1 pipe and filter. Didn't notice anything different except maybe more of that whistling haha. oh well no harm done cost 99cents lol. wouldn't use it for perminat solution it fits snug but never know.
