4 quarts is enough...thats how much our engines hold (it says so in the manual).
as for all your clicking noises, im not sure...maybe a bad cylinder or valve? not sure about whistling noises either.

there is a valve up around the air cleaner area. forget the name but it's part of the emissions.. it will click. track down the noise i bet that's it.

the whistling could be the intake making noise. if it happens while the hood is up, could be a bad belt tensioner. also under warranty.

4 quarts is what it takes. you're fine on that one.

Car is not under warrenty anymore, the whistling noise is coming from the left side (where the belt and pulley are at, but I dont know exactly where)
