What can happen if your clutch plate is not torqued down to properly.

well...if something is under torqued...it would come loose...and if something is over torqued...it usually cracks or breaks. why?

I am doing a clutch change on my car, Im half way bolting every thing back up. So for some odd reason then I asked my friend what he tq the clutch plate to, he told me he tq it to 70 inch pounds when it needs to be tq to 168 inch pounds.

The plate will vibrate at its resonant harmonics everytime you engage it, and over time, those bolts will come loose because of that until one falls out and gets wedged in the pressure plate and gouges the hell out of everything. Yes, 70 in/lbs is too low. it needs to be between 14 and 15 ft/lb or 168 in/lbs or you will almost certainly have issues and theyll usually be terminal issues at that.

sorry to jack but I have a question.

I am driving the other night and all of a sudden my car won't stay in fifth gear
1-4 and R are fine with no slipping
once I put it in 5th and gas, it slips to N
my guess is the pressure plate is bad

I have another clutch and prssure plate ready to install

just making sure that seems to be the problem before I go through with placing that and having it be the tranny

I figured if it were the tranny that Iwould here grinding and that the first 4 gears would have issues too, not only 5th
