When you press in the clutch, does it sound like a baseball card stuck in bicycle spokes?

That happened to my Sunfire, it was my throw out bearing... but I wouldn't see why they couldn't fix that if that was the problem. And, unless you totally can't drive a clutch or beat the poo out of it, I can't see it going out at 15k either... *scratches head*

if you want some real advice you have to answer this question as truthfully as you can.

How do you drive your car?

if both you and your friend broke the clutch at around 15 k, either you both got a pair of identically defective clutches, which would be an amazing coincidence, or you guys are doing something wrong when you drive.

do you rest your foot on the clutch pedal when driving or something? that is what the dead pedal is for. i have just over 43k on my first clutch, still going strong.

Clutch and throwout should last over 100,000 miles if driven correctly, so as mentioned, you two either beat the crap out of them or you just happened to get defective parts. You dont HAVE to pull the engine to do it, but you do have to at least pull the tranny.

I have less than 3k miles on my car. I hope I don't have one of these clutches. I guess I'll have to put in the TRD clutch if it goes.

same here bro. I was talking to a rep though... Because since my clutch was having problems I asked him if I should just buy an aftermarket clutch and have it installed... but he told me If i did that the warranty would be void for the engine... something along those lines.... because if the clutch ever broke and messed up the engine they wouldn't fix it. =T

Hmmmm...good to know. I figured with a TRD clutch I would be ok. I better make sure I don't ride it too much and rev-match everytime I downshift.

Did you ask the rep about an After Market clutch or a TRD clutch? Because if you buy a TRD and have the dealer install it (i know i know) it won't void your warranty i believe.

i had the throw out bearing go... and no they dont have to pull the engine... My throw-out bearing went due to weather related issues. The throw-out is a part of the car that is exposed to weather and it actually rusted. Luckly, warranty replaced it.

hrm not really sure what a throw out bearing is.. however..they tried fixing everything they could without messing with the engine and i was informed that they'd have to take the engine out.. which was why i didn't bother...

It is probably your throwout bearing. The tC's throwout bearings are badly designed and they don't have a pilot bearing or bushing. When I put a performance clutch in mine I went a head and bought a new bearing before the install, I figured since I had it apart it would be a good idea. My throwout bearing felt like crap around 20,000. We changed my friends clutch in his tc and his felt like crap too. Toyota needs to change the throwout bearings to a better design. One thing that doesn't help either is the bearing isn't sealed so all dust and etc from the clutch can get to it.
