Default custom CAI.....what problems might I run into

Ok well Ive was thinking...what if someone made a custom intake on there own....what problems might u run into?

would it matter where I would locate the MAF?

would 3" piping be too big?

not sure what sizes the Injen and all use

any feedback would be greatly appreciated

What are you trying to accomplish? More power or less cost? or both?

The diameter of the pipe must stay the same where the MAF is curently located. It also can not be too close to the air filter or else it will receive in accurate readings.

well u got me I didnt wanna say anything till I got more answers but I got sponsored by this company called Spectre Performance.......and b4 I go on its not like those carsponsorships.com things

anyways they have a intake system thing goin were u can mock up your own custom intake and when u mock it up....u tell them what pipes u want and what angles and such...
I installed it and it worked fine but got a CEL and the car kinda booged a bit. I would be on the freeway and I would floor it and it wouldnt speed up...It would take forever.....thats when I had each pipe connected by one of these

I got tired of seeing it with those so I ordered some chrome connectors
so I put the intake together but ran into a problem....when I tried to start the car it wouldnt turn on...it would turn on then die....I tried to keep it on by pressing the gas but no good just shut off......

I dont know if maybe with those new connectors I didnt tighten them down all the way or what but Im confused.....

heres the website of the company that spponsored me

FYI...I believe her sc is Kathryn but she has a RS1 ( i think ) well she works with them and shes the one who's helping me

Not sure if its the same situation, but on my car, i put the airbox back on for a day just to compare the two and i guess i didn't tighten the clamp around the throttle body tight enough and it came loose the same thing happened the car just died. So maybe its loose around the throttle body, or also i believe the maf sensor relies on air flow to let the car run, and if the pipe is TOO big it might not be getting enough airflow at the sensor, but those are just suggestions, not really sure.

Oh, I'm sorry, didn't know that was u. Yhea I read the first post, just didn't look at the nick. I would stay in 2.75", yes .25 does the difference, if it is too big, the air will move to slowly, and it will play a lot of tricks with the MAF. Try 2.75" Unless it is not mandrel bent. If is not, then MAYBE u can experiment with the most straight foward setup with 3" pipe diameter.

READ HERE FOR THE SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM!!!

You have the MAF on backwards, it is not bi directional. I did the same thing, and after banging my head for hours that was the solution LOL. I had installed the MAF on backwards, so the car would not stay on whatsoever.

I have that done to my intake system. It's not a full CAI though, I only did it from the airbox to the TB. Credit for this mode goes to Doc I.

It's called the G.F.I. if you do it the way I did. (ghetto fabulous intake)

Check it out on the www.yoursciontc.com forums. That's where I learned about it. I have no pictures of mine though and I'm to lazy to do it tonight.

Here's a pic of basically exactly what mine is, except I spray painted it black.

Credit goes to "thecybe" on yoursciontc forums, it's his picture.
