Default Custom Intake throws a CEL?????

I know people have posted about buying aftermarket intakes and having them throw CEL, i've searched for 3 hours reading every post i could finding no info to help me...

With that said, i installed a new Modular intake system on my car, and now i'm throwing a CEL, I modeled the intake after the injen/k&n/Wr intake, the code is P0171 (system too lean(bank 1))... I've checked all my connection, there all tight, the only 2 thing i can think of that cause this is..

1. the MAF adaptor pipe came with 3 adaptor for the MAF, I use a the triangle looking one on the right side (pic will be posted and also link), on further inspection of the injen/k&n/WR they used the retangle plate with the end cut off the one in the middle. could this be my problem, maybe the MAF isnt in the right spot or something?

2. when i first installed the MAF i installed it backwards, and tried to start the car, could this backwards air damaged the MAF???

tell me what you think... maybe i'll just give up and by the injen, but i'd really like the make this work....

is the MAF close enough to the throttle body it may not matter, but from looking at it, it looks pretty close the fender, and that's not where the aftermarket intakes have theirs..

If you move the MAF too close to the throttle body in addition to using a free flowing intake it can cause issues. The actual noise from the engine that is coming back through the intake can interfere with the maf operation (noise is simply moving air) , especially if it is located too close to the throttle body for the particular MAF design. Also, if the sheilded side of the MAF is facing the wrong way you can have issues. Do a search for ScionDads post regarding this. He found some very good info on intakes and MAF sensors that goes into MUCH more detail than what I have posted here. I cant remember the name of the post exactly, but search for posts by him including something like MAF AND intake. You should find it easilly.

You also may have damaged the MAF sensor.

I would say your MAF is not seated air tight. If there is air going around it, you will have unmetered air causing a lean burn.
