Default custom TRD short shift

so a few months ago there was a post of someone shortening the height of their automatic shifter. i thought there might as well be one of a manual. when i bought my 09, i got the TRD short shift to be disappointed to see the height was still stock... so i decided to do it myself instead of buying a new one. tell me what you think!!

Old n ugly

Now - about 2" shorter

after cut ( haha and yes, my cut is VERY crooked, i filed it straight later on)

the tools i used

so yea, let me know what you think... i could still go about half an inch or so but cant decide...if you have any questions let me know!

Should have just bought the doc i short shifter instead of the TRD (of course that doesnt help now).... reduced throw and your choice of height reduction along with cable bushings, risers, etc for a very low price :D

Looks nice. I'm one of the few who likes the TRD shifter at its default height, primarily because I have the driver's seat at the far back because of long legs. Before I got the TRD shifter, I sat in a friend's tC with the TWM shifter, and it felt like I was going to rip my right arm out of the shoulder socket when shifting into 5th unless I leaned forward. So I went with the TRD shifter, and I liked it.

I just got a couple of TWM shift *****, so I'll get to see what adding weight to the top will do for the shift smoothness. I'm probably going to leave the TRD **** in the car when parked, so I don't have to deal with a TWM shift **** that's freezing cold or scalding hot.

I like the feel of doc's short, but I went in a friend's car who has the TRD quickshifter plus 2 inch drop on it and it felt sooo nice.

the thread die i used was size 1/2-20 but if you can use a metric die i think you can get a little more an exact fit... the one i used worked, but shallow threading

prolly right... the threading for the trd **** is plastic, so when i put it back on it rethreaded it a lil different since i didnt have the exact thread. i think im getting the doc shifter this summer anyways but this is a very easy job and makes a load of difference

I did the same thing with my B&M short throw. I didn't like the height so I cut off another 1 - 1 1/2"
