nope, no header will pass smog in CA. You are eliminating the main cat... so nope.

if you want to pass, this is what i reccommend doing, get the heatshield for the car (i think the supercharged heatsheild is different) and have it modified to fit over the header, so it looks OEM, and if you don't have a CEL, you could pass.

get the heatsheild custom then do the antifouler trick on s pipe to eliminate cel. that should work, or hit up a chop shop they probaly hook u up with a pass emission.

You could also buy a code scanner and erase it. Most can do it, and they are fairly cheap at Pep Boys, etc.

even Amazon.com:

How will it ever pass smog?

Run better wires and plugs?

I have been running Nology wires/plugs for many years. The first car I installed them in was a '94 4 door Saturn SL1 (I didn't make a lot of $$$ back then...). The Saturn techs couldn't understand (when doing State Insp/Emmissions) how my car with under the bumper ram air, a K&N drop in filter, and 130K miles on the odometer did better in emissions than brand new Saturns

I installed them in my '08 tC, and they run VERY GOOD. The only thing that you need to remember with them is that when you run them, they burn the fuel so efficiently that the car tends to lean out. You should use WaterWetter or some other coolant additive to compensate, or your fans will come on ALL the time. The coolant temperature running Nology Silver plugs and wires will run about 30 deg. warmer than normal (due to the lean condition).

So much for smog problems! I was CLEANING PGH PA air with my car!

BTW, I also recommend that you find a gas station that uses sweet crude. It has lower sulfur compounds, and burns better. The best fuel that I have found so far is Sunoco. I think BP also manuf. from sweet crude as well.

http://www.nology.com/hot.html
http://www.nology.com/silver.html

If you are interested, the science behind the wires is that they use a capacitor-resistor circuit to store the electricity from the coil until the capacitor reaches its ionization state (it can't hold any more juice). It then releases 2/3 of the energy almost instantly, resulting in a much larger, faster, and hotter spark. It allows the engine to time better (it only takes nanoseconds for the discharge - depending on a coil, it might take milliseconds, which translates into a cooler spark over a longer period of time. Not what you want to burn your fuel...).

The plugs use a non-resistor Silver core. Silver is the best conductor next to Gold. Gold would melt in your engine, but silver can take the temps. It also gets the most electricity to the spark as is (at this time?) possible.

The first time that I went to change my plugs in the '94 Saturn (the stock plugs only lasted around 18K miles...), I noticed that the silver had ELECTROPLATED the other part of the spark plug and there was NO GAP CHANGE. They will run for a LONG time between changes.

At just around $200, it is a VERY good investment IMHO, especially if you are going to be running Forced Air Induction at some point...

Smog? What smog?

Oh, I forgot - when I baby the tC, I am getting about 31MPG (mostly city...) :o

The tC's are rated for 20 MPG? How interesting

it matters what type of test they run.. if it's cel that's easy.. but if they measure the smog.. then your kinda screwed.. so what i recommed doing is meet some honda heads hang out for awhile and find out where they go..

California does visual as well. You can make your tC run cleaner, but once they pop the hood, the jig is up...unless you pay someone not to look under the hood...

But don't waste your time worrying about smog until 2010 at the earliest.

So how are coil-on-plug wires and Denso plugs worse than Nology? Do some reading, you'll find out that Coil-on-plug ignition is significantly more efficient than traditional spark plug wires.

I don't even know where to start here. So your less efficient spark plugs and wires mess with the A/F? Maybe you're getting detonation from a too-hot plug. It also sounds like you must have a faulty thermostat. We have 400+ hp turbo cars on the site that use the stock cooling system.

I don't know how to say this nicely, but you don't get 31mpg city. Not for a full tank certainly. You can prove me wrong with an engine swap and 1000lbs of lightening, but that's about the only way to hit 31mpg city.

Most Sour Crude goes into Diesel or heating oil. If it makes it into gasoline, they hydrogen sulfides and mercaptains have been removed. Neither Sunoco or BP are "Top Tier", which is the only widely recognized rating of a gasoline.

The tC is classified as a Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV) and won't get smogged in CA until 6 years after purchase (assuming you didn't get caught with non-CARB parts); so the earliest a tC will have to be regularly smogged in CA is 2010 since they were sold starting 2004.

Of course, the law is subject to change at any time...

Everything you just said about those wires doing anything different is a result of the placebo effect. If I short shift my tC and dont get above 2k for each shift I can get into the 30's for fuel economy too. Your trying to reverse engineer the ignition system and use inferior technology to do it with.

I can see where you might think that I am trying to reverse engineer the ignition system. What I am trying to do is to burn as much of the fuel that enters the cylinders as possible. If a 3rd party older technology is able to do that, I am all for it.

For instance...

Most (currently widely manufactured) surgical scalpels are made out of steel. However, archeology has shown us that the medical abilities of cultures long since passed away (especially skull surgeries) were far more precise that we are able to do with our scalpels and lasers. They had an older technology - obsidian. Obsidian is able to be sharpened to within ONE MOLECULE THICK. Now THAT'S a knife! You may also want to check this out:

http://www.physicsforums.com/archive.../t-161956.html

I like high tech, but if low tech is better, let's use it!

california, haha! you could have cleaner emissions than a hydrogen car and you wouldn't pass because of the visual. it's like straight out of 1984, "it's not the message that matters, but your obedience to it." forget logic, forget legislative intent. I swear, y'all would elect joseph stalin if he ran for governor of california.
