use jack stands, flat ground, preferable concrete, block under front tire so it does not move......

I always have a buddy around to help when i am under a car just in case of an accident,it is rare but one can always happen.

Please just never climb under with a jack only lifting car as that is how my good friend was killed.

I use a 3 1/2 ton jack, parking brake locked, wheel chocks, two 6 ton jack stands...a little over kill but it's what I have been using on my former vehicle(F150). Now it's time to buy a shorter pair of jack stands as these will only fit under the front core support/frame horns.

also a good idea to help out with those bolts is to have a piece of piping in which you can stick your ratchet/wrench into to give you more leverage. always worked great for me. and some kind of lubricant like wd-40 is a must for those hangers. i found it harder to mess with the hangers than removing the bolts themselves.
