Default Does the cover for the K&N CAI really help?

It is summer here in california and it gets very hot during the day. I temporarily took off the cover that goes over the filter of my cold air intake; do you guys think its worth it? Will the cover actually prevent hydrolocking, or even keep some dirty off of the filter?

What do you guys recommend. I'm thinking of putting it back on because i dont wanna risk anything happening to my engine.

Thanks in advance.

Greg.

I also have the K&N installed, and it's been thru several rainstorms already, without the cover and without ANY problems. I keep it in the car anyway, but just havent seen a need to use it yet, maybe after summer when the rain is really coming down I'll put it on, but other than that it'll stay off. I installed it as the CAI setup, I also live in S. Cali, and never anticipated having trouble from the beginning. Intake has been on for a few months now, and I'm extremely happy with it in all respects. I highly doubt you will have any trouble, even if it rains.

I agree, you should keep it on, the air flows right through it.

freeze it first, then put it on. after all, it is a cold air intake system and we know leaving a large open filter in the engine bay to suck up all that hot engine air isn't really gonna do much good, is it?

a better solution is to enclose the filter in a box to protect it from hot engine bay air and instead, direct cool air from the outside to that box. well, what do ya know....the engineers already thought of that.

sry, jk around.
