does engine braking consume extra gas?was this ever answered
i think i remember seeing a thread on here about down shifting and using engine braking. someone said that when you engine brake, the high revs will consume extra gas...someone else said that the car simple turns off the injectors when you engine brake and turns them back on when you hit the gas...
well, what does our car do?
start the battle

and TheScionicMan is correct.
The car consmes no gas while coasting/engine braking in 1-4th. That's why if you own a wideband, it goes blank while the revs drop. No fuel, no Air/Fuel Ratio.
In 5th gear the ECU takes over a bit. It will pump in a small amount of fuel while coasting to help keep you at speed. However if you coast for a while, somewhere between 2-3k rpm the fuel cuts.
Hope this helps.
