Does the tC have a Rev Limiter that limits the revs so it won't go over Redline? I let my friend jump in the car and he revved it up real high for awhile.
I was scared he hurt my baby so i wanted to know. I tried revving it up past red line and it went past.

Just wanna make sure.

Yes it does, I believe its at 6300 rpm if im not mistaken.

 

You didn't feel the difference? Usually what it does is it cuts off the gas pedal and such. It doesn't bounce of and on like other cars, this one just lets you get to 63 and then cuts off past it. But your safe!

I also would go ahead and slap your friend for being Stupid! Its just one of those things you shouldn't do! If not get in his car and do it times 3! LoL have fun!

 

I'm pretty sure it's a few hundred rpm higher than 6300, but the '07 models will cut the fuel at the limiter and your tach will drop to around 4k-5k before being able to accelerate again.

Yep. I have whats known as control of my right foot... so I dont ever hit the rev limiter Punch your friend.

 

I think its just the tach that goes past the red line but i don't think its the throttle keeping it there. I think!

 

If the tach goes past redline.. the throttle is keeping it there

The rev limiter is set right around redline (which is the purpose). I think I have ever only hit it once, and that was in second on an autox course when my tires broke loose suddenly out of a corner.

The car also has a speed limiter, which is a separate item. I WILL try to hit that in few weeks, when I attend the autox/top speed run near here. Half autox course ending on an old runway for a top speed run. :D Air resistance grows exponentially with speed, so I am not sure how it will do over 100 in 1/2 mile. But we will find out soon how fast I can get it in the amount of room they give us, which I am not sure of yet.

No he did not say there was only a speed limiter. Actually, in order to get to the part where he talks about the speed limiter, you had to read through the part where he answers the question about the rev limiter.
Did you bother reading the rest of the thread? Almost every single poster answered the question with "yes". So, yes, "seriously" everyone knows for sure.

...which is what a rev limiter does. So yes, it's a rev limiter. It cuts fuel at the limit, and is therefore just as much a rev limiter as it is a "cutoff". I'm pretty sure everyone would agree that "rev limiter" is a much more descriptive term.

Thats just me and my opinion on it though

 

On 05-06 models, I believe that the rpms would seem to "bounce" off a set limiter. The 07-08 are different, where it is a more obvious cutoff.

I can't confirm this, because I only own an 07.

 

yeah in the 06's its the typical bouncing tack rev limiter, BUT i don't think it cuts fuel...

 

All newer cars have rev limiters. Most let you rev past red line by a little. If there was no limiter and your engine significantly overrevs bad things will happen (possibly an explosion).
