Default ecu question helpzz

ok. so i'm doing an auto to manual swap. i want to reprogram a USED manual ecu from a tc. i went to the dealer and he said "they come burned with everything on it. no way to switch it over, you'll need a NEW ecu and we'll have to program it. that's teh only way lolololoolololololrofl" pretty sure he's trying to rape me. last time i went there they told me my brand new tpms was broken, and that i need a new one. but it infact works. it's only "broken cus it wasn't bought through them....they're trying to get more money out of me cus im a kid (1. soooooo. my question is, are our ecu's reprogrammable to other cars? i really only need to change over the immobilizer key. but vin number and all my tpms would definitely be a huge plus. thanksss!

Why do you want to reprogram the ecu? Odometer? If so the odometer is stored in the cluster.

You shouldn't have to reprogram the ecu for this swap. The dealer is correct. The ECU comes preprogrammed from the factory. The only thing the dealer can do is flash update or fine tune any known problems with the ecu such as heat soak or the BS brake over ride system.

i know about my mileage.
the immobilzer key is set in the ecu which is different for EVERY car. so i'd either need a the ignition system from the ecu im getting, or get my old code programmed into the ecu. and i'd run tpms light and prob a cel for wrong vin #. soooooooo. do i have to get a new ecu and get it programmed to my car or reprogramming of this imformation is possible is the question.

Buy a used manual ECU. There is a thread on here that tells you how to do the immobilizer reprogram. It just matches the key to your ECU. The mileage will be the same as before. You can pick up used ECU's pretty cheap if you poke around online. I've done it personally before on a friends car (05-06) and a good buddy of mine did it on his 07+ so it works for both. You just need a paper-clip!

You just jump two pins in the OBDII port for about 20 mins. You dash lights up like the 4th of July with flashing lights etc the whole time and when the time runs out, you start it up perfectly fine.

The thread is a little tough to find last I checked buy I KNOW it's on SL somewhere. I believe Crush made the post originally.

TPMS, to be honest, I have no idea but they should work no problem IF AND ONLY IF you reset and reprogram them fully and correctly. This entails letting all the air out of the tire etc. It's a process but it's also on a post somewhere. If you can't fix it and you don't want to see the light, just take out the cluster (5 mins) and shove electrical tape down in the valley that leads to that LED in the white plastic overlay. Problem solved!

Why not just trade it in for a Manual instead?

TPMS get's activated at the dealer prior to putting it on the lot. The sensors aren't specific to just one vehicle permanently. You just have to do the FULL reset procedure. Besides, TPMS is more annoying that anything else IMO. Every time the weather changed and the pressure dropped 1 psi, that crap would light up.

no.. each tpms sensor has it's own individualized serial numbers that are programmed into the ecu for the ecu to recognize them.

you'll need to get those numbers from the old ecu and record/write down so that you have them to program into the replacement ecu... otherwise you'll have to go through the stupid task of unmounting all the tires to get to each sensor to identify each serial number for reprogramming.

yes, you need to go to the dealership... and if the light is on as it is because you replaced the sensor and didn't program it..

looks like you're going to have to unmount that tire to get that number anyway.

^got the number. wrote it down after i bought it off of a member on here. but now with a new ecu they're all not gonna matter, right? this sucks hahaha. so i got that one and the other 3 on the ecu....can they just check the ecu for the other 3 to reprogram into new ecu?

yeah i know its just huge pain in the ___. would i still pass inspection like that? cus if i will ____ it i'm just gonna keep it taped up lol. and by relearning the ecu makes it useable in that car regardless of the programed vin # or immobilzer key? or is the immobilizer that is getting relearned? final question =]

This trick allows that ECU to operate on your car. It programs the key to the ECU so really it's only messing with the immobilizer. It's not illegal to have a different ECU in your car that what came with it. I wouldn't imagine that TPMS would be a pass/fail for an inspection but I'd ask a shop to be sure.
