Default engine start problem

I have a small problem when I start my car. It happens when the car is been sitting awhile (cold start). When I get into my car, put the key in and turn it then wait for all the needles to finish sweeping then i start the engine (a/t), but when i do that it doesnt start and gives me a CEL. So i try again and start it up and then it starts fine... this has happened a couple of times in a row now, so i have no idea whats going on. I will take this to the dealer and see what it is all about but before i do i just want some of your input on what it might be. Thanks!

Why not just crank it? I don't see a purpose in leaving it in the on position and the cranking it. I'm not sure but I think that's what your doing.

I've heard of people doing this, they'll turn the key to 'ON' a second or two before cranking. Apparently they do this to pressurize the fuel system.

Default Samething with a twist-

I have the same problem, glad to hear that Im not alone, but its bigger than this. I also toss the car in reverse, then pop it in drive and the car shuts off. Im like WHAT!

Anyways Im trying to find the solutions to one thing at a time so Ill piggy back on this thread.

First I thought it was a remote start alarm system thingy that I had installed. Now Im wondering if its just the car. (they said everything is working fine, and of course it doesnt do it when they are around.)

I would appreciate any answers or even speculation on this too. thanx.

hmm I was gonna go to the dealer today but when i went out to start my car it started up fine ... no CEL or any problems... I didnt wanna waste my time going to the dealer and having them said nothings wrong with it so imma wait til it happens again and just drive it straight to the dealer. Good luck with yours!

the tC take a few seconds for it to start... when you turn your key in on-postion (radio, aircondition, windows etc.; not engine) it shows all the lights including the CEL... theres nothing wrong with the car, just a delay when you start the ignition...

the tC has an immobilizer system in it, the key has a chip that tells the computer that this is the original key for the car. sometimes the key wont work right and your car wont able to start because the computer was not able to recieve the signal from the key for that moment...

real, i dont think you should take it to the dealer if you cant start your car within a second....

thanx ReAL, for the luck, seems like imma need it.

Today after stopping at Micky D's my car went off when i put it in drive. kept doing it a couple of times.

Then after I checked the mail a couple minutes later it happened again over and over. The "check engine" light appeared and has been on since. Hopefully the dealer can squeeze me in tomorrow.- another day off work.

On a plus side I took Diluvium's advice about waiting for the needles to sweep, and havent had the starting problem again. -small joy but thanx.

I dont start my car right after i insert the key ... In my post above I stated that I waited for all the needles to finish sweeping then start my car... and when it doesnt start that is when I get the CEL.

That is weird how your car dies on you when you put it in Drive, I've never had that happened before... maybe theres something wrong with your transmission!? I hope the dealer can check it out and resolve the problem.

I just came from the remote start guys, and they said everything is hooked up fine. they took it down the street and some guy connected a "pda on steroids" to a, under the dash, connector. it game him a code and he reset something, basically they say I drive too hard. when im on the highway then come into the city to park or make a pitstop the cars computer is reading the intake from the highway. given i am repeating this second hand and not versed in mechanical lingo- does this even make sense? becoming desperate.

The Walbro in my Firehawk takes a good 1.5 secs to pressure up, if I try to start it before that is starts like ____ and then I look around to make sure nobody is looking.

Just a follow up for search engines.

Took my car in again they reset/rebooted the computer, saying something about air intake- dont ask. Only died once since then, but now I take it real slow and dont just jump in and drive.

-let needles sweep
-start car
-wait for about 30 sec.
-and everythings fine..........so far.
