There is enough room in the engine bay if you are willing to work with it. It’s just a matter of figuring out what will fit and how much fabrication is involved. I would not be that surprised if you could drop the Camry V6 right in with little effort. Since we have the 4cyl Camry engine the mounts are probably the same. Of course with any engine swap you’re in for a big project. You have to worry about bunches of related components being compatible: Transmission, ECU, exhaust, fuel system...

For the sake of kicking around weird ideas, what about a celica 3S-GTE swap, or a 1MZ-FE v6 (Out of the Lexus/Solara, and others)? Been reading a lot on the MR2 forums recently. Yeah, I know the 3S-GTE is a smaller engine, but is it more sturdy? I know so little squat about the camery v6.
I figure, hey, if they can jam a v6 in a MR2, why not us?

Also, if we are going to drop a bigger engine in the FRONT, the weight of the car is going to be distrubuted even worse than it already is.
BTW, moving to NA
Toyota had to redesign the intake manifold from the Camry's 2azfe because of limited clearance between the engine and the firewall. So I suppose a 3sgte swap would run into clearance issues with the tC's firewall as well (unless you fabricate a custom intake manifold). I dont think you could fit the V6 into the tC, but people have put Camry V6's in 2nd gen MR2's.
3SGTE. yum....

The 3SGTE would be pretty nice! And a supercharged 1MZ would be pretty cool as well. But at this point, its all speculation. I dont think anyone really knows for sure simply because no one has tried a swap yet... at least as far as I have seen or heard.
I'll be the first to say I know squat about the 'possabilities', i just figured if they were cramming in a v6 into a mr2, anything was possible?
I think I was reading that they were running 18-20 lbs of boost on the 3SGTE, and i'll just assume a built block of course. As far as manafold clerance with the firewall, and again keep in ming i don't know a lot, is that a part of the design that could be relocated elsewhere (even if we have a tiny engine bay)
IF it turns out our 2az-fe's are just not up to snuff down the road to really take a beating, i'm under the impression other toyota engines -may- be up for it. So, someone go get us another engine and see if it has problems mounting. Hey, wait, i'll voulenteer my ride for that! *insert sponsorship here*

well unless you want to do a lot of work to do a 2J rwd i'd say forget it. a 3S would be cool but you'll probably have a lot of custon work (mounts, axles,...). if it were me i'd just turbo the stock motor. a rwd tc would be cool but thats A LOT of work.
