Ingalls "Stiffy" Engine Torque Damper ...what does this do?

 

it limits engine movement under heavy torque loads so that the power being sent to the tires isn't lost to the engine twisting under the hood.

 

is it worth it to get it

 

i've heard complaints about the vibration and the rattling noise it results in, but i also heard that it gets the job done pretty well of keeping the engine still. an alternative for the eng. damper are motor mounts, which i heard only has increased vibration, but i heard the rear motor mount is a complete pita to install.

 

so its easier to install then motormounts the only downside is vibrations

 

no, it is easier to install the torque damper.

the front motor mount is easy, but the rear one requires dropping the tranny.

but the big thing is you get more vibration with both the torque damper, and the motor mounts, but you can take off the torque damper really easy when you don't want the vibrating. but the motor mounts...they pretty much ahve to stay in place.

Can a torque damper be used on an auto? You think it helps a lot with wheel hop then?

 

yes, it can be used on an auto.

i have one i no longer want if anybody wants it. it's in perfect shape.

 

yeah, just not as much as with the manual because the auto doesn't pull as hard when you launch it like a manual does when you dump the clutch.

i run both poly mounts and the dampener. lots of vibrations but less wheel hop. I gots too much torque.

 

The Dampener we are talkign about is the piece that hooks up on the left side of the engine (looking at the engine), next to the strut, correct?

Sweet, i am so getting one. Nothign more nervewracking to me than hearing the engine rock on the mounts at the strip
