x2

Also. I'm pretty sure there is a Phantom Grip LSD, if i'm not mistaken.

Some people have chosen that as a cheaper alternative.

I'd go with the TRD Quaife LSD though ^^

Is it? Everywhere I've read says it's a clutched unit, but that's what I get for believing the internet, I guess. (EDIT: I suppose I could have just checked the Scion website in the first place, which says it's a helical type. )

So Quaife and TRD sell the same unit for the tC under their own brand names? That's a bit... silly.

I believe it similar to the TRD BBK, which is also rebadged.

A lot of rebadging going around all the time, lmao.

*EDIT: Well Quaife used to sell it on there website. But after TRD bought the rights to it from them. Quaife ceased to sell it on there website. So now its a Toyota option, lol. ^^

I see the problem: apparently TRD rebadges both clutch type and helical type LSD's, and Googling "trd lsd" mainly gives you pages on the clutch type.

Beware the interwebs; they're a tricky beast.

I love how TRD stands for Toyota Racing Developement. But all they develop is a plan to rebadge some elses product or buy the rights to someone elses product who already did the developement. It makes me feel bad having TRD stuff in my car.

Not to bash, but isn't that what zpi did as well, lol.

But anyways.....I don't mind the TRD parts.

I do think credit should be given where its due though.

If they bought the rights to it, they obviously thought it was a well engineered piece.

But still. I guess there hoping to increase the price because it was "rebadged" TRD.

I'm really confused then, because I'm not seeing anywhere that Quaife makes a clutched LSD.
The TRD is Quaife. TRD bought the rights from Quaife and its gear type not a clutch type.

This is words straight from the dealers mouth where I bought my first tC in Tennessee and also the scion sales managers mouth here in Jacksonville where Im getting my new one..

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If I was wrong Ill gladly tell you I was wrong..

I really would check to see if they're going to charge you for installation or not. I'm not trying to start an argument, and I'm sure they'll cut you a break since you'll be working there... but on the Scion website itself, it says tax and installation isn't included in the $1350 price for the LSD. Go customize a tC, go to Performance, click the LSD, and click "Disclaimer".

*MSRP, excludes tax. Pricing and availability may vary by dealer. Installation not included.

2 pix from when I had my TRD LSD and Clutch installed.

OH - and BTW : I'd BET MONEY you are not getting it put in for free. I am sponsored by my local toyota dealership, get discounts on EVERY single item purchased, and labor and it still cost me $480 to have both put in. Its a 8 hour list job. Not to mention its NOT just the LSD you need. There is a whole install kit, shims, spedo gear, taper bearings and more.

This thing puts power to the pavement very well if you are running either a s/c or turbo unit. I run a full TRD car, so I am s/c'd.

As for the installation of the unit itself, if you purchase it at the time of purchasing the car, you pay the price of the unit only. You don't have to pay extra for installation. That price they have listed, $1350 (MSRP) is what you pay. If the dealership is trying to charge you for installation, you need to talk to someone, because they shouldn't be.
Exactly what he said. If you get the LSD as an option you WILL NOT pay for installation. If you buy the car and go back later to get the LSD you WILL pay for installation. Its the dealerships way of trying to get you to buy more on the car at the time of purchase instead of taking your money to an aftermarket company.

If they are charging you 1300 for only the diff you might want to check with TRD sparks they can sell you both the install kit and diff for about that price without tax, you will just pay shipping.

All the options I got from the dealer were installed for the MSRP on the website, no additional information. I was told by my dealer that it was that way for any options.

I just talked to my friend at the dealership. He told me he would look more into it. because it is indeed alittle bit of labor. But, he will let me know b/c he is just the scion sales manager. So, he would check with the service manager tomorrow once he comes back from vacation..

The TRD LSD price of $1350 is only the parts cost. That (no matter if you finance it with the new car, or purchase it afterwords) does not include tax or installation. That is what Scion says. If the dealer is installing it for you for free, more power to you. That's a heck of a deal. :D Hope that helps.

You were right all along. This dealership hre follows vthe rules b/c they are out to make money. I guess my friends at the TN dealership were gonna do it free just b/c i have excellent hook ups with them.. oh well lsd will be purchased at a later time from trd sparks for cheaper, and installed by a reputable shop.
