Are the Factory Synchronizers up to the Task?
As ZPI has mentioned, this tranny has taken a beating from many, so I dont think it is necessarrily a design issue rather than some poorly ground synchros. I know mine shifts like butter after 30k, but some say thiers has problems right off the bat, which makes me think of some bad parts, which is more than often the issue when you see batches of cars with issues and others without them.
Also mentioned already is the fact that it is less labor to simply replace the tranny. In fact, I am betting the most dealerships will not even crack the tranny open. It is typically better to send one to a specialized tranny shop to do internal work anyway. They are set up to do that and that alone.

Does'nt seem like a proven "camry" transmission from a 100% built in japan Toyota would have these issues. Guess i'll keep driving it, as is, till it becomes a more consistant issue. Then take it in for service. Hate to do it though-the dealership already hooked me up with a clutch after I pushed the original past its limits.
So I took in just in time (only had 400 miles left on my power train warranty), I did not take any of my aftermarket mods off, I told the service guy that I did not want to get hassled for my aftermarket mods, I wanted a fair deal, I told him that if they can prove that it was caused by something I added, then I would walk away and not say anything, but if its a tranny deefect, I wanted it replaced. So I went for a test drive with one of the techs and he duplicated the grinding into third, so I left it at the dealer for the day, I called back later and they told me that they order me a new tranny and that it would be warrantied, so I'm getting replaced once again. I'm sure having a good relantionship with one of the sales Manegers and beeing the club president of their Scion club helped out a bit.

As of now the problem only arises when driving hard-so toyota techs would probably say there's not a problem. Besides if I upgrade syncros it would be a great time to slip my car LSD.

It might not be the syncronizers at all, just the crappy stock shifter.
From what I've read here and on various other "griding gears" threads, certain tC's definitely have inadequate synchronizers.
Even if this is the Camry transmission part for part, the performance of the synchro's have nothing to do with the vehicle application.
Also, 15-30,000 miles of HORRENDOUS driving should not be enough to wear out a Toyota manual transmission.
This being said, my 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd (normal driving) gearshifts grind unacceptably frequently - even after a change to Royal Purple 75W90 full synthetic fluid (which is dealer recommended.) Also, getting into 1st from 2nd at a stop with revs up a little REQUIRES double-clutching to be at all smooth.
This all amounts to failing synchronizers, particularly the first two. I'm lucky not to have the 4th and 5th gear issues like others that I've read of.
Dealer ahoy... I'll threaten to get a Civic Si or a new Nissan something or other if they don't somehow appease me.

I have problems with my 4th gear, when im at or above 4k rpms, i can hear a slight grind everytime i shift if im above that level, and if im close to redline in 3rd then I can hear it grind for about 1-2 seconds before it goes into gear, pretty sure my synchros are gone
